Abstract:
The embodiments disclose means to inhibit the growth and migration of bacteria, mildew and fungus by applying various coatings which contain an inorganic anti-microbial agent onto metal, glass, and plastic substrates. The substrates are used in the manufacture of components for the interior of refrigerators and freezers, which include wire (100) and glass shelving (200, 300), plastic crisper baskets (500) and other articles within the food storage area. The coatings include the inorganic anti-microbial agent combinet with a matrix resin which are applied by electrostatic powder coating (916), roller coating (810), or robotic spraying (710), and then cured.
Abstract:
A method for coating a golf ball comprising the steps of providing a golf ball component; providing a polymer material; creating a polymer particulate; fluidizing the polymer particulate; placing the golf ball component within the fluidized particulate; and fluidized coating the golf ball component with a thin layer of the polymer material.
Abstract:
A barrier to diffusion of gas through polymers by means of plasma generated coating on polymeric substrates. The coating is suitable for application on planar polymeric substrates such a sheet or film. The coating is suitable for application on three-dimensional polymeric substrates, such as polymeric containers, or bottles.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a hydrophobic and oleophobic porous materials and processes for making the same. In a first process of the invention, a thermoplastic substrate is at least partially coated and/or impregnated with a surface treatment material. In a second process of the invention, thermoplastic particles which comprise a surface treatment material are sintered together. Preferred surface treatment materials are fluorochemicals.
Abstract:
A method is provided for making brass, bronze, chrome, steel, antique, and stainless steel finish metal or plastic products having enhanced antimicrobial and other properties without any significant discoloration of the metal product. A curable polymeric material containing ceramic particles preferably a zeolite with one or more antibiotic metals ion-exchanged therein is used and applied to the metal product and cured for an effective time at a specific temperature range to provide the desired metal product. Electrostatic spraying is preferred to coat the article but other application methods can be used.
Abstract:
In a surface treatment method of treating the surface of a material to be treated, by irradiating with light the material to be treated and a mediating material in contact with each other, the mediating material itself causes substantially no interaction upon irradiation with light. The surface of the material to be treated is treated by provision of a chemical reaction field, in which a substituent of the material to be treated and an atom of atomic group of the mediating material is induced by excitation, by irradiating with light by using the logical product of the contact interface between the material to be treated and the mediating material and the light irradiation region, thereby causing and progressing bonded state transition.
Abstract:
A tape comprising a biaxially-oriented backing made from a polymeric film bearing on one major surface thereof a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive and on the other major surface thereof a layer of low-adhesion backsize composition. The backing and the layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive intermix so as to form a commingled layer between them. This invention also provides a process of preparing pressure-sensitive adhesive tape comprising the steps of (1) providing an extruded polymeric film backing, (2) orienting said backing in the machine direction, (3) applying a low-adhesion backsize layer to one major surface of said backing, (4) applying a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer to the major surface of said backing not bearing the low-adhesion backsize layer, (5) orienting the layer-bearing backing in the transverse direction by heating and cross-stretching the layer-bearing backing, (6) winding the machine direction oriented, transverse direction oriented, layer-bearing backing onto a roll, and (7) optionally, converting the machine direction oriented, transverse direction oriented, layer-bearing backing to form a tape.
Abstract:
Polyurethane articles of manufacture are treated so as to make their surfaces more adherent to paint by contacting the surfaces of the articles with a solution of phosphoric acid in a low molecular weight organic solvent, e.g. a carboxylic acid ester such as ethyl acetate. The treated article is then dried at an elevated temperature.
Abstract:
Discontinuities, e.g. scratches, in a plastics surface are removed by exposing the surface to a pulsed radio frequency plasma comprising a mixture of argon and hydrogen. After melting has been effected the surface is exposed to an argon plasma to effect cross-linking to form a smooth surface layer.
Abstract:
A process for the surface treatment of a part wherein it comprises subjecting the surface of said part in an inert atmosphere to the action of a hot gaseous arc plasma, and followed by the immediate cooling of the thus treated surface by projecting on to the same a cooling liquid at a temperature close to its saturation point which is a temperature whose variation from the saturation temperature does not exceed 15.degree.
