    Abstract: The lock assembly has a first movable lock part (2) interacting with a second lock part (3). The first lock part has a simple-acting operating element (4) operated by pressurised medium and with a single connection (9) for supplying and discharging the pressurised medium. The operating element has an operating member (7) movable between a pushed-in end position and an extended end position and coupled to the first lock part so that when pressurised medium is supplied the first lock part is moved into an operating direction. A closing position is defined between the end positions from where during displacement of the lock part in the operating direction the two lock parts inter-engage. A mechanical resetting device (8) sets the first lock part back against the operating direction and a blocking device (15) blocks displacement of the first lock part against the operating direction so that the two lock parts remain engaged.     Abstract: A system for tightening a threaded fastener with a hydraulic wrench has a pumping unit which measures parameters representative of the torque applied to the fastener and the angle of advance of the fastener, remote from the wrench. The pump measures pressure as a parameter representative of torque and measures flow rate, pump speed (for a fixed displacement pump), or time (for a fixed displacement pump driven at constant speed) as a parameter representative of the angle of advance of the fastener. A ratchet-type hydraulic wrench is used, and the pressure versus angle data produced in tightening a fastener is manipulated to discard irrelevant portions and smooth relevant portions to provide data representative of torque and angle during the tightening process from which to determine a final stopping parameter for terminating tightening. The system also has a calibration fixture for determining the volumetric rate of angle advance for a given wrench. Any tightening methodology dependent upon angle may be used to practice the invention, or the invention may be applied to monitor the tightening process.

    Abstract: A vibration absorber (10) has a mount (40) for attaching to a vibrating body, such as the frame of an aircraft. A plate (28)is spaced from the mount (40) with a mass (52) there between. A first elastomeric ring (60) is compressed between the mass (52) and the mount (40), and a second elastomeric ring (62) is compressed between the mass (52) and the plate (28). The rings act as a spring having a stiffness that defines a resonant frequency at which the mass oscillates. Vibration in the body is reduced by the mass movement absorbing vibrational energy and the energy absorption is maximized when the mass resonates at the vibration frequency. A controller (80) senses body vibration and operates a mechanism that alters the spacing between the mount and the plate thereby adjusting the spring stiffness. The stiffness of the spring is changed until the resonant frequency of the mass is tuned to the vibration frequency of the body.

    Abstract: The piston/piston rod assembly (6,7) forms in the cylinder chamber (5) a head-side (9) and a base-side (10) chamber. The piston rod extends outwards through a hole (11) in the cylinder head (4). One of the chambers (10) is closed in a gas-tight manner and is filled with a gas under pressure. For the other chamber (9) a connection (20) is provided for feed to and from of hydraulic fluid. The chamber filled with gas under pressure is connected to a buffer chamber (15), also filled with gas under pressure. The volume of the buffer chamber is independent of the piston of the piston/piston rod assembly.

    Abstract: A two stage pressure control valve has a poppet movable toward and away from a valve seat to vary the cross-sectional area of a passageway from an inlet to an outlet. The position of the poppet is dependent in part on the difference in pressure between a fluid pressure at the inlet which exerts an force on the poppet in one axial direction and a control pressure which is produced by a fluid flow from the inlet in a chamber downstream from the inlet and which exerts a force on the poppet in the opposite axial direction. The control pressure is controlled by an electromagnetic coil which can be variably energized to move an armature so as to vary a variable restriction downstream from the control pressure so as to vary the control pressure. A tube extends through and forms an axial sliding seal with the poppet and communicates a flow of fluid from the inlet to the variable restriction and the chamber is positioned adjacent to an exterior surface of the tube. An orifice through a wall of the tube communicates a lumen of the tube with the chamber.
