Abstract:
Finely divided tetrachloroisophthalonitrile powder is dispersed in a vehicle which is a mixture of calcium alkyl aryle sulfonate, nonionic surfactant, fatty acid or other ester, coupling agent and optionally lecithin. The vehicle provides a water and organic solvent compatible tetrachloroisophthalonitrile dispersion having a pourable and pumpable viscosity as well as settling resistance which is useful as an antimicrobial agent in both water-based and solvent-based protective coatings such as paints.
Abstract:
Shelf life of silica based defoamer composition is improved by adding oil soluble resins and optionally aliphatic fatty acids to retard separation and to inhibit settling. The composition is useful in preventing foaming or in defoaming aqueous systems such as water based protective coatings, adhesives, black liquors and monomer stripping.
Abstract:
A diaphragm cell for the electrolytic production of chlorine and alkali metal hydroxide, in other respects conventional, is improved by the provision of a dimensionally stable, polymermodified diaphragm together with a dimensionally adjustable anode capable of movement toward said diaphragm on cell assembly.
Abstract:
A process is described that is particularly applicable to the continuous production of hypochlorite solution over long periods of time by electrolysis of aqueous chloride solutions with an anode having a coating that is a mixture of oxides of tin, antimony, at least one platinum group metal, and a valve metal selected from the group titanium and tantalum, all in certain proportions.
Abstract:
Cathodes of an electrolytic cell wherein a number of anodes and cathodes are positioned in spaced parallel relation in an electrolyte solution are maintained free of deposits which tend to form during electrolysis of the solution by contacting at least one anode of said cell prior to contacting a cathode during the introduction of electrolyte solution to the cell and contacting at least one anode with the electrolyte solution subsequent to contacting the other electrodes just prior to removal of the solution from said cell.
Abstract:
A cell and a method of operation are disclosed whereby sea water may be electrolyzed to form an aqueous hypochlorite solution with reduced formation of interfering deposits on the electrodes. The cell design and method of operation ensure suspension of particulate matter in the electrolyte and also allow intermittent backwashing to remove any accumulations of contaminants.

Abstract:
Described is a process for winning metals from aqueous acidic solutions by passing an electrolyzing current between a cathode and an anode, which anode comprises a conductive substrate bearing on the surface thereof a coating of the mixed oxides of tin, antimony, at least one platinum group metal, and a valve metal selected from the group titanium and tantalum.
Abstract:
In a process for the production of perchloroethylene in an alumina-containing fluid bed reactor, the addition to the reaction gases, prior to an anhydrous quenching step, of a preferentially hydrochlorinatable ethylenically unsaturated chlorinated hydrocarbon reduces the tendency of the trichloroethylene also contained in the reaction gases to hydrochlorinate forming unsymmetrical tetrachloroethane.
