    Abstract: There is described a memory gauge for obtaining information pertinent to an environmental condition in a well bore. The memory gauge can repetitively sample the environmental condition in a well bore at sample rate intervals so that information pertinent to the environmental condition is obtained in correspondence with the sampling. A circuit is connected with the sampling, to sample the environmental condition to obtain information pertinent thereto whenever the environmental condition changes at a rate passing a predetermined threshold irrespective of the sample rate intervals. The circuit can sense the environmental condition and provide an electrical signal having a characteristic which changes with changes in the environmental condition. It can define a rate-of-change threshold and can determine in response to the electrical signal and the characteristic thereof, whenever the environmental condition changes at a rate passing the defined rate-of-change threshold irrespective of the sample rate intervals. In response to the above, the circuit also provides a control signal to the sampling to cause the latter to sample the environmental condition.

    Abstract: Irregular volumes within one or more three dimensional volume datasets are identified and extracted in response to criteria (16). The processing involves automatically finding a seed voxel or seed cell that meets the criteria and thus belongs to an irregular volume of interest, and then identifying cells related to the seed cell by one or more predetermined relationships that are therefore also to be grouped into that irregular volume. Information of a suitable type identifies each cell as being related to other cells and belongs to an irregular volume is stored in a data structure (12). Attributes or properties of the identified cell are stored. The extraction and pre- processing allows for rendering (32) them on a display and performing Boolean and arithmetic operations on them.

    Abstract: A cementing head apparatus (10) comprises a swivel head body (12) with a manifold assembly (14) having remote control valves (292,296) and plug release means (234). The body (12) is connectable to a tool string, and the cementing manifold is connectable to a cement source. The manifold (14) is rotatably mounted on the body (12) to provide continuous fluid communication between the manifold and body even when the body is rotating with respect to the manifold. The rotatable mounting is provided by a swivel connection comprising a mandrel (40) extending from the body (12) and a sleeve (68) connected to the manifold. The swivel connection also provides continuous communication between a pressure line (288), extending from the sleeve (68) to a pressure supply, and another pressure line (156), extending from the mandrel (40) to a dart or ball releasing mechanism (234). This allows the releasing mechanism to be actuated even when the body is rotating with respect to the manifold and when the entire apparatus is being reciprocated. Another swivel connection (158,186) can be used which also provides continuous fluid communication between the manifold and body.
