Abstract: A method of closing a container involves the following steps. Firstly, providing a clamping ring having an inner circumference, an outer circumference and an external engagement on the outer circumference. Secondly, providing a lid with a circular inner sidewall having an internal engagement. Thirdly, fitting the inner circumference of the clamping ring over the circular outer sidewall of the container from the bottom until the clamping ring engages the rim. Fourthly, placing the lid over the rim and engaging the internal engagement of the lid with the external engagement of the clamping ring to clamp the rim of the container between the clamping ring and the lid.

Abstract: This lifesaving floatation and breathing device comprises first and seco nd inflatable bags having similar bag volumes, and a mouthpiece communicating with both bags. A pressurized gas cylinder filled with breathable gas is mounted to one of the bags. This pressurized gas cylinder has a gas volume and a gas pressure therein. The device also has an inflator mechanism mounted thereto for transferring the breathable gas from the pressurized gas cylinder into one of the bags. One of the characteristics of the device is that the volume of each bag is a mathematical product of the gas volume inside the cylinder and a ratio of the gas pressure inside the cylinder over atmospheric pressure. Either bags can accept the full content of the cylinder at atmospheric pressure, thereby obviating the need for a pressure regulator or flow control orifice therein.

Abstract: There is proposed use of microphone recordings of air waves, recorded close to a geophone, to suppress air-wave and surface-wave noise on the geophone. The types of air-wave noise on the geophone may include air-coupled ground roll, air blas t, ground- coupled air blast and wind noise. Microphone recordings of air waves are related to ground measurements and geophone disturbances. The air wave may be used to filter the geophone data. Tests on recordings from the Calgary General Hospital implosi on on October 4, 1998 indicate success in reducing noise on the geophone data. The re is further proposed a geophone with an attached microphone to reduce noise on the geophone data. In addition, a geophone attached to a microphone could be used to reduce ground motion noise on the microphone.

Abstract: An interface circuit permits a customer who receives two-phase service from an electrical utility company to use power from an on-site source instead of or in addition to the utility company's power. Several embodiments are disclosed, in some of which the interface circuit automatically disconnects the utility company's power lines if the utility's power is lost and connects the on-site power source. The interface circuit may be installed in whole or in part in a meter collar which fits between an electric meter and the meter socket box that the meter would otherwise plug into.
