PURPOSE: Methods for encoding and decoding an image file, a machine-readable storage medium, and a multimedia device are provided to create a new multimedia having images and animation elements by allowing a multimedia decoding application for supporting a suggested file structure to decode images and additional data. PURPOSE: A handwriting-input guide device and method for handwriting recognition are provided to compare feature information of a locus generated by touch input with predetermined feature information of characters and display a candidate character having the same feature information, thereby enabling a user to easily input handwriting regardless of the order of strokes. CONSTITUTION: A touch screen part (20) displays a screen and receives a touch or a drag, and a character feature database (30) stores character data and character feature information corresponding to each character data. If a first touch and drag is inputted through the touch screen part, a control part (10) detects first feature information from a locus drawn along the inputted touch and drag. The control part compares the first feature information with the character feature information and detects first candidate character data having the same character feature information as the first feature information, and displays the detected first candidate character data through the touch screen part. PURPOSE: A character recognition and translation method of a camera based image is provided to perform image character recognition in an optical mode, thereby constructing a convenient user-centered interface and minimizing the error of character recognition. CONSTITUTION: An image is photographed(S1). A recognition range within the image is selected in order to recognize characters included in the image(S2). Character recognition/translation completion result information is displayed on a screen(S3). In case a user selects the whole of the image selects as the target of character recognition, a word and character recognition process is performed. Separate characters included in the image are recognized(S9). Words are configured from the recognized separate characters. The meaning of configured words is searched from interconnected dictionary data(S10).
