Abstract: A method of making a release coated article is described comprising: providing a release coating comprising at least 50 wt. % of monomer(s) comprising an ethylenically unsaturated group and a terminal alkyl group with at least 18 (e.g. contiguous) carbon atoms based on the total amount of ethylenically unsaturated components; crosslinking components(s) comprising at least two ethylenically unsaturated groups; and at least one polymerization initiator. The release coating is substantially solventless, comprising no greater than 1 wt. % of non-polymerizable organic solvent. The method further comprises applying the release coating to a major surface of a substrate; and polymerizing the monomer(s) and crosslinking component(s) of the release coating after applying the release coating to the substrate. Also described are release coating compositions.

Abstract: The present invention is an assembly layer for a flexible device. Within a temperature range of between about −30° C. to about 90° C., the assembly layer has a shear storage modulus at a frequency of 1 Hz that does not exceed about 2 MPa, a shear creep compliance (J) of at least about 6×10−6 1 /Pa measured at 5 seconds with an applied shear stress between about 50 kPa and about 500 kPa, and a strain recovery of at least about 50% at at least one point of applied shear stress within the range of about 5 kPa to about 500 kPa within about 1 minute after removing the applied shear stress. The assembly layer includes at least one of a polyisoprene, a polybutadiene, an olefin block copolymer, a polyisobutylene, and high alkyl polyolefin.

The release liner comprises a thermoplastic polymer and a first release agent represented by the formula: Each R1 represents a hydrocarbylene group having from 2 to 40 carbon atoms; each Rf independently represents a perfluorinated alkyl group of having 3 to 5 carbon atoms; and each X1 is —NH— or a covalent bond. Methods of making the adhesive articles are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of making an adhesive article comprises three steps. First, a backing is provided having first and second opposed major surfaces with respective first and second silicone release layers disposed thereon. The second silicone release layer further comprises a compound represented by the formula: R1 represents a divalent hydrocarbon radical having from 2 to 40 carbon atoms or covalent bond. R2 represents a monovalent or divalent poly(dimethylsiloxane) moiety. X represents —NH— or a covalent bond. Rf represents a perfluorinated group having from 3 to 5 carbon atoms. y is 1 or 2. Second, an adhesive layer is disposed onto the first silicone release layer. Third, the adhesive layer is exposed to E-beam radiation within a process chamber containing oxygen to provide a crosslinked adhesive layer. An adhesive article made by the method and the compound are also disclosed.
