Abstract: The inventive proximity sensor comprises a power supply unit (1), a switching unit (2) and a sensor unit (3). The sensor unit (3) has one or more sensor elements as well as means for controlling these sensor elements, and comprises means for measuring relevant physical quantities of the sensor elements and means for generating measurement data, whereby the switching unit (2) intermittently connects the sensor unit (3) to the power supply unit (1). This makes it possible to use existing sensor units (3) in a power-saving manner without having to adapt them or by only slightly adapting them. An inventive proximity sensor preferably has a wireless feed and a wireless transmission of measurement data. A preferred variant of the invention is used for proximity switches. The proximity switches are preferably inductive, capacitive, photoelectric, ultrasonic or Hall sensors.

Abstract: The switch (10) includes a switching unit (11), having at least two switching states which can be read remotely via a wireless link, and at least one coding unit. An antenna (13) receives and transmits electromagnetic waves. The antenna is operatively connected to only one coding unit (12) in dependence on the state of the switching unit. The coding unit may be a SAW filter. The switch may comprise just one coding unit, and the switching unit may be an on/off switch. Alternatively the switch may comprise two coding units, and a change-over switch. Abstract: A psi detector (3,3a,3b) produces a level-related signal from attenuation of background psi radiation (2). An Independent claim is included for the corresponding level detection system, sensing tank vertical density profile. Preferred Features: A long psi detector, especially a scintillation detector (3a) employs a photomultiplier- (3a) or a photodiode- (3b) array. The detector (3-3b) is orientated along the filling direction of the vessel. The scintillation detector is a light-transmitting rod, an optical fiber or an optical fiber bundle. It is vertically arranged in the separator tank (4), or to a side of it which is screened from the background radiation by the tank contents (5-8). Scintillations are split into two portions, their light led by differing propagation paths to the photodetectors. Time delays of photodetector signals from correlated scintillations are measured, from which the point of scintillation is calculated. From the frequency distribution of scintillation source points, a density profile and especially levels of the vessel contents are determined. To follow level variation, the process is carried out continuously and/or drift in the electronics is eliminated, using a calibration source, especially a weak psi or alpha emitter. Photodetector signal pulse height is discriminated by the electronics. The threshold is an exponentially-decreasing function of the time delay, selected such that scintillations are evaluated in a given energy spectrum.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for fluorescence measurement of oil residues in water. The core of the invention is to use a powerful, narrow-band excimer lamp to excite intensive fluorescence radiation to detect the latter with a photodiode or the like, and to determine the oil concentration therefrom. The excimer lamp can be designed as a flat radiator a hollow cylindrical inner radiator or a tubular radiator, and can be combined with a through-flow or free fall measuring cell. The excimer lamp is advantageously operated in a pulsed or modulated fashion, the fluorescence radiation is measured at a right angle to the exciting radiation, the emitted and/or transmitted exciting light is monitored with the detectors, and a redundant measuring arrangement with a plurality of excimer lamps and fluorescence detectors is provided. The sensor is distinguished by reliability, freedom from maintenance and a long service life.
