Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject stable catalyst easy to control and handle, capable of polymerizing a polar vinyl monomer singly by reaction between a specific titanium complex containing a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton and an alkyllithium. SOLUTION: This catalyst, a complex of the formula Cp'Cp"TiR [e.g. bis(cyclopentadienyl)methyltitanium] or of the formula, is obtained by reaction between (A) a trivalent titanium complex containing a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton, e.g. a complex of the formula Cp'Cp"TiX (Cp' and Cp" are each a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton; X is a halogen) and (B) an alkyllithium of the formula Rli (R is a 1-10C alkyl or the like) (e.g. methyllithium) pref. at -50 to 100 deg.C for 0.5 h to 10 days; wherein it is preferable that the molar ratio A/B is 0.5-20.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject stable catalyst easy to control and handle, capable of polymerizing an olefin at normal temperatures by including a specific titanium complex containing a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton (except bispentamethyl cyclopentadienyl complex) and a methylaluminoxane. SOLUTION: This catalyst is obtained by including (A) a trivalent titanium complex containing a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton (except bispentamethyl cyclopentadienyl complex), e.g. a complex of the formula Cp' Cp"TiX (Cp' and Cp" are each a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton; X is a halogen) [e.g. bis(cyclopentadienyl)chlorotitanium] and (B) a methylaluminoxane, e.g. a compound of formula I or II (n is 0-40). It is preferable that when this catalyst is to be used in a solution polymerization, the catalyst concentration is set at 1×10-4 to 1×10-2 mol/L, and the amount of the component B to be used is 10-100 mol per mol of the component A.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a styrenic resin having a syndiotacticity and an improved practical heat resistance, and a catalyst for preparing the resin having an excellent polymerization activity. SOLUTION: The catalyst essentially comprises a reaction product of a transition metal compound of the formula: (Cp-R)MX3 [wherein Cp is a cyclopentadienyl group; R is a single substituent chosen from 3-30C alkyl groups, aryl groups and the like; M is a transition metal chosen from the group consisting of titanium (Ti), zirconium (Zr) and hafnium (Hf); and X is a halogen] and at least one promoter chosen from (a) an organoaluminum oxy compound, (b) an ionic compound which yields a cationic transition metal compound through reaction with a transition metal compound, (c) a Lewis acid compound which can yield a cationic transition metal compound through reaction with a transition metal compound and (d) an organometallic compound of a group 1, 2 or 13 element metal of the periodic table. In a syndiotactic styrene resin, the difference between the low-temperature crystal melting point(LMP) and the high-temperature crystal melting point(HMP) is within 20 deg.C.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and easily prepare an inexpensive catalyst for polymerizing an olefin, easily to be handled and useful for polymerizing ethylene or the like by including a specific metal complex, a metallocene compound and a specific alkylaluminum halide. SOLUTION: This catalyst is prepared by including (A) a metal complex of the formula (wherein, Cp is cyclopentadienyl; D and E are each a halogen; J and L are each a 1-8C alkyl or a halogen), (B) a metallocene compound such as bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride and (C) an alkylaluminum halide of the formula; RnAlQ3-n [wherein, R is a 1-8C alkyl; Q is a halogen; 3>(n)>=1.5]. The quantities of the transition metal included in the ingredient B and the ingredient C are preferably 0.5-1.5 g atom and 10-50 g mol respectively based on 1 g atom titanium in the ingredient A. The ingredient A is obtained e.g. by reacting bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium dichloride with ethylaluminum dichloride.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer which is stable in air and has a high polymerization degree by using a catalyst comprising a cobalt complex containing a ligand having a cyclopentadiene skeleton and an organic aluminum compound. SOLUTION: A catalyst for polymerization of a polar vinyl monomer comprises a cobalt complex represented by formula C5 H5 CoXI2 containing a ligand having a cyclopentadiene skeleton and an organic aluminum compound such as a trialkyl aluminum or the like. The polar vinyl monomer is polymerized in the absence of a solvent or in a solvent such as a heptane or the like at 0-80 deg.C by use of 1×10 -1×10 mol of the cobalt complex per 1 mol of the vinyl monomer to produce a polymer having a number average molecular weight of 1,000-10,000. The vinyl monomer is a monomer having a polar side chain such as a cyano group, a carboxyl group and the like as exemplified by a (meth)acrylonitrile, a (meth)acrylate and the like. X in the formula is a pyridine, PR 3 or P(OR )3 wherein R and R are an aliphatic group or an aromatic group.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound in high yield through a simple process by reaction between an aromatic hydroxy compound, carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a specific catalyst. SOLUTION: This compound is obtained by reaction between an aromatic hydroxy compound [pref. 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane (bisphenel A) or the like], carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a catalyst composed of (A) a polyuclear metal complex compound with a Lewis acidity-manifesting atom and palladium atom as the metallic center and (B) a redox catalyst; wherein the component A is e.g. bis(disphenylphosphinomethane) (trichlorotin) dipalladium chloride, while the component B is pref. Mn(tropolonato ion)3 or the like; and it is preferable that the molar ratios: A/aromatic hydroxy compound and B/A are 10-6 to 10-2 on a pd basis and 0.5-50 on a pd basis, respectively.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the detection sensitivity in a region where a film thickness is small by depositing a required org. compd. by evaporation on a substrate, irradiating the substrate with light with lapse of time and measuring the generated surface photoelectric current. CONSTITUTION:While a prescribed high voltage is held impressed between a pair of metallic electrodes, the org. compd. is deposited by vacuum evaporation on the substrate and the substrate is irradiated with light from above the substrate in parallel therewith. The photoelectric current generated by the photoirradiation increases with the growth of the vapor deposited film. The monitoring of the vapor deposition is possible by tracing this increase. The surface photoelectric current increases nearly exponential-functionally with an increase in the film thickness in the region where the film thickness is small and, therefore, the ratio of a change in the photoelectric current with respect to a change in the specified film thickness is extremely high and the increase in the film thickness is detected with an extremely high sensitivity.
