    Abstract: A docking station 400 for receiving a portable media player (such as an MP3 player) with a single integrated connector port, the docking station including a base 414 with a slot 416 recessed within the base, the recess configured to receive an end of the portable media player. An inner peripheral surface of the recess is sized and dimensioned to receive an outer peripheral surface of the media player. The docking station further comprises a single integrated connector plug 422 that engages the port of the portable media player when placed in the recess, the interface between the port plug able to distribute data, power and media. The docking station may comprise a guide post 430 for extending into a void disposed between a back surface of a housing and an inside surface of a platform of the media player. The docking station may be a stand alone unit, and can be integrated within another electronic device.

    Abstract: A Universal Serial Bus socket-equipped arrangement (USB-SEA) configured for mating with a Universal Serial Bus (USB) plug (200) having a plug metal housing (202) and an aperture (208) disposed in the plug metal housing. The arrangement includes a plug-receiving cavity (226) configured to receive the USB plug. The arrangement further includes a spring-loaded mechanism disposed within the plug-receiving cavity. The spring-loaded mechanism (224) is biased toward an interior region of the plug-receiving cavity. The spring-loaded mechanism is also configured to slide along the connector metal housing of the USB plug when the USB plug is inserted into the plug-receiving cavity and to movably mate with the aperture disposed in the plug metal housing when the USB plug is in a terminal mating position with the USB socket assembly. The spring-loaded mechanism represents one of a spring-loaded ball and a spring-loaded pin.
