    Abstract: The dispersions (I), free from hydrophilic auxilaries, with less than 5% organic solvent and contg. a polymer comprising 15-50 wt.% specified component A and 50-85 wt.% specified component B, where sum of % of A and B = 100, are prepd. by polymerising to form one of A and B in an organic solvent, polymerising to form the other in the polymer soln., dispersing the mixt. of A and B in water with addn. of NH3, and opt. then distilling off excess solvent. A is copolymer of 1) 85-98.5 wt.% at least one (meth)acrylate ester with a 1-20C monoalkanol without further functional gps., opt. up to 60 wt.% ester being replaced by a vinylaromatic cpd. 2) 1.5-15 wt.% at least one copolymerisable olefinically unsatd. 3-10C organic cpd. with at least one COOH or carboxylic acid anhydride gp., 3) 0-30 wt.% copolymerisable, olefinically unsatd. organic cpd., other than those under 1) or 2), and free from COOH and carboxylic acid anhydride gps., where sum of % of 1) and 2) = 100. B is copolymer of 1) and 3) exclusively. A is prepd. with less than 10 wt.% vinylaromatic cpd. acid no. of A is max. 75 mg KOH/g solids, and acid no. of mixt. of A and B is max. 30 mg KOH/g solids. Or A is prepd. with 10-60 wt.% vinylaromatic cpd., acid no. of A is max. 95 mg KOH/g solids, and acid no. of mixt. of A and B is max. 50 mg KOH/g solids. Polymer compsn. of A and B is chosen such that (I) dries at room temp. without further addns. to clear, nontacky film.
