    Abstract: Perylene esters of formula (I) are new: (where 0, 1 or 2 R's are H and the others are same or different 1-10C alkyl (opt. Cl or OH substd.), 3-8C alkoxyalkyl, cyanoethyl, 4-8C beta-(carbalkoxy)-ethyl, 4-8C dialkylaminoalkyl, 7-10C phenalkyl or phenyl opt. substd. by 1 or 2 1-4C alkyl, CH3O, C2H5O, Cl and/or Br; X = Cl or Br; n = 0-8). They are prepd. from tetracarboxylic dianhydride by reaction with >=2 moles ROH alkali metal salt, then opt. further alkylation of the half-ester formed. (I) are used for deying (semi)synthetic matls. such as polyamides, cellulose ester, polyacrylonitrile and esp. linear polyesters, and for mass pigmentation of thermoplastics such as polystyrene. They give yellow-to-red shades of high light fastness.

    Abstract: In a process for the preparation of 1-amino-2-phenoxy-4-hydroxyanthraquinone by reacting 1-amino-2-halogeno-4-hydroxyanthraquinone with a phenol in an alkaline aqueous medium at an elevated temperature, the improvement that 1-amino-2-chloro-4-hydroxyanthraquinone is reacted in aqueous suspension, at a pH of from 9 to 13 and at from 120 DEG to 150 DEG C., with the phenol in the presence of (a) ammonium salts N(+)(R)4A(-), wherein one or more R's are linear or branched C4-C20-alkyl or C7-C10-phenylalkyl and the remaining R or R's may also be phenyl or N(+)(R)3 may be pyridinium, and A(-) is one equivalent of an anion, of (b) ethylene oxide/propylene oxide block copolymers or of (c) oxyethylation products of alkylphenols, of alkenylamines, of alkylamines or of alkanols. A very pure product is obtained, in high yield.

    Abstract: Azo dyes of formula (I) are claimed. In (I) D is a radical of a diazo component; R is H, OH or (un)substd. alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, phenyl or heterocyclic ring; R1 and R2 are each H or (un)substd. alkyl alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl, or R1 and R2 together complete a satd. heterocyclic 5- to 7-membered ring; and X is H, Cl, Br, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, allyloxy, beta-cyanoethoxy, benzyloxy, phenoxy, beta-alkoxycarbonylethoxy, where alkoxy is of 1-4C, 1-4C alkylmercapto, phenylmercapto or 1-4C alkanoylamino, and Y is Cl, 1-4C alkyl, allyloxy, 1-4C alkoxy, beta-cyanoethoxy, or X and Y together form a fused benzene ring, the naphthalene nucleus thus formed opt. being substd. by alkyl, Cl or Br. (I) are esp. useful for dyeing and printing cotton and cotton-polyester blended fabrics in fast blue, violet or black shades with good colour strength light fastness and wet fastness.
