    Abstract: Regenerating plastic diaphragms comprises mixing a soln. of mineral acid (I) with a corrosion inhibitor (II) and passing the mixt. through the diaphragm for 0.1-84 (pref. 1-72, esp. pref. 2-24) hrs. at 0-100 (pref. 40-80, esp. pref. 50-70) degrees C. Also claimed are plastic diaphragms obtd. by this process. (I) consists at least partly, pref. entirely, of HCl in a concn. of 0.3-20 (pref. 2-10) wt%, pref. contg. NaCl in a concn. up to the satn. pt., pref. up to 250 g/l. Pref. soln. (I) also contains 500-5000 ppm Cu and/or Fe cpds., esp. Cu(II) and/or Fe(III) salts. The mixt. contains 0.005-5 (pref. 0.05-0.5) wt% (II). Component (II) contains alkynol(s), esp. an alkyne-diol, pref. mixed with 1-25 wt% amine, esp. hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA), ethylhexylamine or diethylhexylamine, and/or 0.1-3 wt% surfactant, esp. a quat. ammonium salt.
