    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a crystalline solid of the subject compound substantially not containing an additive and having virtually sufficiently low hygroscopic property. SOLUTION: This crystalline solid constituted of a glycine-N,N-diacetic acid derivative represented by formula I [R is a 1-30C alkyl or a 2-30C alkenyl, a group of formula II (A is a 1-12C alkylene bridge, etc.; M is H or an alkali metal, etc.), etc.] is produced by distilling away water content of an aqueous solution of (A) glycine-N,N-diacetic acid derivative I [R is a 1-20C alkyl or a group of formula II, etc.] as a starting substance. Crystallization is carried out by adding a crystalline component A in an amount of 0.001-50wt.%, preferably 0.01-10wt.% based on an amount of the component A in a starting substance as a nucleus for crystallization and the crystallization temperature is controlled to 10-100 deg.C, especially 40-80 deg.C. The resultant crystalline solid has a purity of 70-99.9%, especially 80-99.5% based on total amount of solid.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an orthoester in a high yield, by reacting a trihaloalkane with an alkali metal alkoxide in the presence of a corresponding alcohol using a slurry of the alkali metal alkoxide. SOLUTION: This method for producing an orthoester comprises reacting (A) a 1,1,1-trihaloalkane (for example, 1,1,1-trihalomethane) with (B) an alkali metal alkoxide, for example, sodium methoxide, in the presence of a corresponding alcohol using a slurry (a suspension of the solid alkali metal alkoxide in the alcohol) by use of, for example, a blade drier, a kneader and a discotherm reactor. The slurry is preferably used in a state that a weight ratio of the solid component to the dissolved alkali metal alkoxide is at least 0.4. The reaction is preferably carried out using the component A in an amount of at most 1.1 mol per 3 mol of the component B.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of formic acid formates, wherein a flowing liquid (I) containing formic acid, and a flowing liquid (II) containing a metal formate, are provided. The flowing liquids (I) and (II) are guided to a rectification column such that a higher or equal guiding point for the liquid flow (II) is selected for the rectification column for the liquid flow (I). The liquid flows (I) and (II) in the rectification column are mixed by separating water via the head of the rectification column and the liquid flow is withdrawn from the rectification column, said liquid flow containing the formic acid formate. The invention is characterised in that the liquid flow is obtained as a melt containing at least 0.5 wt. % water.
