    Abstract: Polyol mixtures used for the production of energy-absorbing polyurethane foam comprise (b1) di- to octa-functional polyether-ols with OH numbers above 30 (including at least one with an OH number below 150) and more than 30 wt% ethylene oxide based on total alkylene oxide and (b2) polyether-ols with OH numbers above 30 based on propylene- and/or butylene oxide. A method for the production of energy-absorbing, semi-rigid polyurethane foam by reacting (a) optionally modified polyisocyanates with (b) a polyol mixture and optionally (c) other compounds with isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms, in presence of (d) water and/or other blowing agents, (e) catalysts and optionally (f) other additives etc. The polyol mixture (b) comprises at least (b1) di- to octa-functional polyether-ol(s) based on ethylene oxide (EO) and optionally propylene oxide (PO) and/or butylene oxide (BO), with an EO content of more than 30 wt% based on total alkylene oxide and an OH number of more than 30 mg KOH/g (including at least one polyether-ol (b1.1) with an OH number of less than 150), and (b2) polyether-ol(s) with an OH number of more than 30, based on PO and/or BO. An Independent claim is also included for energy-absorbing, semi-rigid polyurethane foam obtained by this method.

    Abstract: Polyurethane with a loss factor of 0.2-0.8 is based either on (a) a prepolymer obtained by reacting a polyisocyanate with a polyester polyol or polyether polyol with secondary hydroxyl group(s) and a molecular weight of 300-1200 or; (b) a polyol component containing other polyester polyol(s) or polyether polyol(s) with primary and secondary OH groups and a molecular weight of 300-1200. A process for the production of polyurethane (PU) with a loss factor of 0.2-0.8 involves bringing into contact (A) a component containing compound(s) which react with isocyanate and (B) a polyisocyanate component. In this system, either (1) component (B) is a prepolymer obtained by reacting a first polyester polyol or polyether polyol with at least one secondary hydroxyl group and a number-average molecular weight (MW) of 300-1200, or at least two of these, with an NCO group-containing compound, or; (2) component (A) contains other polyester polyol(s) or polyether polyol(s) with primary and secondary OH groups and MW of 300-1200. Independent claims are also included for (i) PU obtained by this process, with a loss factor of 0.2-0.8 and also with a natural frequency of 30-500 Hz and/or a dynamic elastic modulus of 1-50 N/cm ; (ii) a method for obtaining PU with a loss factor in the above range or also with at least one of the other properties in (i), by incorporating polyester polyol(s) or polyether polyol(s) with MW in the above ranges into the PU; (iii) formed articles containing PU as in (i).
