    Abstract: Sulphamic acids of the formula R-NH-SO3H (I) (where R is an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic residue) are prepd. by reacting an isocyanate of the formula R-N=C=O with anhydrous sulphuric acid at 25 degrees C in inert solvents. The process is suitable for use on a large scale, and economically gives (I) in good yields and (sulphuric acid-freee purity. (I) are intermediates for plant-protection agents, dyes and pharmaceuticals, (e.g. 2,1,3-benzothiadiazin-4-one 2,2-dioxides useful as plant-protection agents and pharmaceuticals). They are also useful as hardening agents for phenol-formaldehyde resins, and salts of (I); R = cyclohexy) (cyclamates) are known artificial sweeteners. Cpds. (I) in which R is cycloheptyl, cyclooctyl, 2-5C alkyl substd. by Cl, Br 4-6C cycloalkyl ro norbornyl, branched 5C alkyl, or a 6-20C aliphatic residue are claimed.

    Abstract: 1,233,959. 4 - Hydroxytiglaldehyde derivatives. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK A.G. 18 Oct., 1968 [21 Oct., 1967], No. 49541/68. Heading C2C. Ethers or esters of 4 - hydroxytiglaldehyde (2 - methyl - but - 2 - en - 1 - al - 4 - ol) are prepared by oxidizing an ether or ester of 3 - methylbut - 2 - en - 1 - ol with oxygen or a gas containing oxygen in the presence of a heavy metal/ bromine catalyst in the liquid phase at 20-200‹ C. The catalyst comprises a heavy metal source which may be a salt containing the metal in the cation or anion, a complex salt or an oxide of e.g. V, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Fe, Co, Sn or Ce, and a bromine source which is bromine or a compound which contains or readily yields bromide, e.g. HBr an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium bromide, bromoform, allyl bromide or benzyl bromide. A solvent may be used. Examples prepare 4- acetoxytiglaldehyde from 3-methyl-1-acetoxybut-2-ene.
