Abstract: Thermoplastic moulding materials comprises (A) 1-70 wt.% (w.r.t. A+B) of a graft copolymer comprising an elastomer a1 and a shell a2 grafted onto the elastomer, the elastomer a1 consisting of butadiene alone or a copolymer of butadiene with up to 30 wt.% on a1 of styrene or acrylonitrile and having an ave. particle size of 100-750 micrometres (d50-value of the integral wt. distribution), and making up 90-50 wt.% of (A), and the shell a2 being made up of at least one 8-12C vinyl aromatic monomer (a22) and at least one monoethylenically unsatd. monomer (a23), and making up 10-50 wt.% of (A); and (B) 99-30 wt.% (w.r.t. A+B) of a copolymer hard matrix comprising (b1) at least one 8-12C vinylaromatic monomer and (b2) at least one mono-ethylenically unsatd. monomer. The grafted shell a2 is made in two stages in which (1) in a first stage, 5-50 wt.% w.r.t. a2) exclusively of the vinyl aromatic monomer is graft polymerised and (2) in a second stage 50-95 wt.% (w.r.t. a2) of a mixt. of a22 and the monomer a23 in a wt. ratio of 90:10 to 66:34 is graft polymerised in the presence of the elastomer a1.

Abstract: Thermoplastic moulding compositions containing, as essential components, (A) from 5 to 95% by weight of polyphenylene ether, (B) from 5 to 95% by weight of a modified polyamide obtained by reaction in the melt of b1) from 50 to 95% by weight of a polyamide, b2) from 5 to 50% by weight of an olefin copolymer built up from B21) from 50 to 99.9% by weight of an alpha -olefin having 2 to 10 carbon atoms, b22) from 0.1 to 35% by weight of copolymerisable monomers containing a carboxyl, carboxylic anhydride or carboximide group or containing a latent acid-functional group, and b23) from 0 to 45% by weight of primary or secondary C1- to C12-alkyl esters of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, or mixtures thereof, and b3) from 0 to 45% by weight of additives and processing auxiliaries, (C) from 0 to 50% by weight of a vinylaromatic polymer, wherein the proportion of the component C is in each case less than the proportion of component A, and (D) from 0 to 30% by weight of an impact-modifying rubber, and the preparation and use thereof.
