    Abstract: Phosphorus-containing compounds especially azo dyestuffs containing a grouping of the formula standing in ortho-position to the azo bridge are obtained in good yield if compounds of the formula are reacted with compounds of the formula in aqueous medium at a pH of 6-9 in the presence of copper or copper containing compounds. The process is less expensive than applying the conventional solvent method. In the above formulae: K=radical of a coupling component, V1-V3=H or non-ionic radical, X and Y=-OR, -SR, -NR2 or R, R=optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical, Z=-OR', -SR' or -NR'2 and R'=H or R.

    Abstract: N-(5-Amino-2-cyanophenyl)-carboxamides or sulfonamides (X) are new. N-(5-Amino-2-cyanophenyl)-carboxamides or sulfonamides of formula (X) are new. R1 = H or halo; R4 = H or 1-8C alkyl; R5 = 1-8C alkyl (optionally substituted by F, Cl, Br, CN, COOH, alkoxy, alkoxyalkoxy, alkylthio, alkylcarbonyl or alkoxycarbonyl), 2-8C alkenyl or 2-8C alkynyl (both optionally substituted by F, Cl or Br), cycloalkyl or cycloalkylalkyl (both optionally substituted by F, Cl, Br, CN, COOH, alkyl or alkoxycarbonyl), or aryl or arylalkyl (both optionally substituted by F, Cl, Br, CN, NO2, COOH or CONH2, or alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulfinyl or alkylsulfonyl (all optionally substituted by F and/or Cl), SO2NMe2 or SO2NEt2, alkoxycarbonyl (optionally substituted by F, Cl, Br, OMe or OEt), or phenyl, phenylmethyl, phenylthio, phenylsulfinyl or phenylsulfonyl (all optionally substituted by F, Cl, Br, CN, Me, OMe, OMe, CF3, OCHF2 or CF3)); and Y = CO or SO2. Unless specified otherwise alkyl moieties have 1-4C, cycloalkyl moieties 3-8C and aryl moieties 6-10C. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of (X).
