Abstract: A color display device has an evacuated vessel accommodating at least an electron-beam generating source in which a plurality of surface-conduction electron emitting devices are arrayed on a substrate, and phosphors for the three primary colors red, green and blue for emitting light in response to being irradiated with electron beams from the electron-beam generating source. A modulator is provided to modulate the electron beams, which irradiate the phosphors, based upon an image signal, the modulator having gamma -corrector for subjecting the image signal to a gamma correction. The modulator modulates the electron beams based upon the image signal corrected in advance by the gamma -corrector.

Abstract: An electron source emits electrons as a function of input signals. The electron source comprises a substrate (1), a matrix of wires having m row wires and n column wires laid on the substrate with an insulator layer interposed therebetween, and a plurality of surface-conduction electron-emitting devices each having a pair of electrodes (5,6) and a thin film (4) including an electron emitting region (3) and arranged between the electrodes. The electron-emitting devices are so arranged as to form a matrix with the electrodes connected to the respective row and column wires. Each pixel unit is irradiated by at least two electron beams emitted from the respective electron emitting regions which are juxtaposed with interleaving the higher potential device electrode therebetween and a gap interval W in the juxtaposing direction of which satisfies equation (1) below: K2 x 2H(Vf/Va) ≥ W/2 ≥ K3 x 2H(Vf/Va) where K2 = 1.25 +/- 5.05, K3 = 0.35 +/- 0.05, H is the distance between the surface-conduction electron-emitting devices and the image-forming member, Vf is the voltage applied to the surface-conduction electron-emitting device and Va is the voltage applied to the image-forming member.

Abstract: A scanning circuit and an image display device in which the influence of losses in a signal path to scanning wiring and a scanning signal output circuit can be reduced. By considering matrix drive in which one row is driven at a time and two or more of the rows are not simultaneously driven, the 480 rows are divided into six modules and one feedback circuit is provided in correspondence with each module to perform feedback control of the output buffers corresponding to 80 rows. An output from a switch is amplified by an operational amplifier and is input as a compensation signal to all the output buffers by an output voltage compensation circuit. Compensation for a voltage drop is made by using the compensation signal for an increase in voltage such that the apparent voltage drop due to the output current is limited to a small value.
