Abstract:
A fluid delivery system usable in an oral care implement and a reservoir containing a flowable substance. A capillary channel formed of one or more wicking or capillary members extends through at least a portion of the oral care implement to deliver flowable substance(s) through one or more outlets via capillary action. In one embodiment, the rate of fluid flow through the capillary channel is different in at least a first flow section than in a second flow section. In another embodiment, the rate of flow between flow sections of the wicking member is different than in at least one of the flow sections. A variety of flowable substances can be administered for therapeutic, hygienic, and/or other benefits, such as fresh breath, tooth whitening, tooth sensitivity, plaque and/or tartar control, or producing sensations of heat, cool, or tingling.
Abstract:
An oral care implement includes a reservoir containing at least one active agent. The implement has an activator for activating a delivery device, which delivers a predetermined amount of an active agent to one or more outlets. A wide variety of types of active agents can be administered at appropriate and accurate doses for therapeutic, hygienic and/or other benefits.
Abstract:
A method for inhibiting chemical staining of a dental surface comprises contacting the dental surface, prior to said staining, with an orally acceptable polymer or copolymer comprising a plurality of monomeric groups of formula (I) wherein (a) one of A and A' is hydrogen and the other is a moiety (X) n (R) m , (b) n in individual such moieties is independently 0 or 1, (c) linking groups X if present independently comprise an oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus or silicon atom, (d) where n is 0, m is 1, and where n is 1, m is independently an integer from 1 to 3 as determined by X, (e) terminal groups R are independently hydrogen or C 1-18 organic radicals, and (f) M and M' are independently selected from hydrogen, alkali metal and ammonium; said polymer or copolymer having an average molecular weight of at least about 1,000.
Abstract:
Personal care compositions and methods for treating or preventing lipid peroxidation of skin with the same are disclosed. The personal care composition may include a carrier and a surfactant system present in an effective amount to treat or prevent lipid peroxidation of skin. The surfactant system may include at least one amphoteric surfactant and at least one anionic surfactant. The method may include contacting the personal care composition with the skin and exposing the skin to pollution. Methods for formulation a personal care composition for treating or preventing lipid peroxidation of skin are also disclosed. The method may include determining an oxidation protection factor (OPF) of one or more components, using the OPF to select at least one component of the one or more components, and combining the at least one component of the one or more components with a carrier to form the personal care composition.
Abstract:
Personal care compositions and methods for treating or reducing reactive oxygen species in or on skin are disclosed. The personal care composition may include a carrier, at least one plant oil, and at least one vitamin B compound. The at least one plant oil and the at least one vitamin B compound may be present in an effective amount to reduce reactive oxygen species in skin. The method may include contacting the personal care composition with the skin.
Abstract:
Personal care compositions and methods for increasing the amount of antimicrobial peptides produced by skin, reducing inflammation of skin, reducing irritation of skin, reducing reactive oxygen species in skin, or any combination thereof are disclosed. The personal care composition may include a carrier and at least two plant oils. The at least two plant oils may be present in an effective amount to increase the amount of antimicrobial peptides produced by skin, reduce inflammation of skin, reduce irritation of skin, reduce reactive oxygen species in skin, or any combination thereof.
