Abstract:
Described herein are personal care compositions comprising about 0.3 wt% to about 3.0 wt% acrylic acid polymer; about 0.3 wt% to about 3.0 wt% cationic surfactant; and a cosmetically acceptable carrier. Methods of making and using these compositions are also described.
Abstract:
Compositions, such as personal care compositions, and methods for selectively inhibiting the growth of a detrimental bacteria and promoting the growth of a beneficial bacteria are disclosed. The composition may include a base and one or more fatty alcohols. The one or more fatty alcohols may be present in an amount effective to selectively inhibit the growth of at least one detrimental Gram-positive bacteria and promote the growth of at least one beneficial Gram-positive bacteria on skin. The detrimental Gram-positive bacteria may include Corynebacterium, and the beneficial Gram-positive bacteria may include Staphylococcus.
Abstract:
An aqueous composition includes: (a) surfactants comprising a salt of a C 1O-16 alcohol ethoxylate sulfate, a betaine surfactant, and an alkyl polyglucoside, wherein the salt of the C 1O-16 alcohol ethoxylate sulfate is present in a quantity that is greater than any other surfactant; (b) at least 15 weight % of the composition of a C 12-18 fatty acid. A cleansing method includes applying the composition to skin or hair and washing, and optionally rinsing with water.
Abstract:
An apparatus and system for characterizing and quantifying certain attributes of antiperspirants and deodorants is provided, such as payout, friction, and flakeoff. The apparatus is capable of reproducibly applying antiperspirants and deodorant to a substrate.
Abstract:
Personal care compositions and methods for treating or preventing lipid peroxidation of skin with the same are disclosed. The personal care composition may include a carrier and a surfactant system present in an effective amount to treat or prevent lipid peroxidation of skin. The surfactant system may include at least one amphoteric surfactant and at least one anionic surfactant. The method may include contacting the personal care composition with the skin and exposing the skin to pollution. Methods for formulation a personal care composition for treating or preventing lipid peroxidation of skin are also disclosed. The method may include determining an oxidation protection factor (OPF) of one or more components, using the OPF to select at least one component of the one or more components, and combining the at least one component of the one or more components with a carrier to form the personal care composition.
Abstract:
Described herein are personal care compositions comprising - inter alia - a gum system comprising a plurality of natural gums; a surfactant system comprising a plurality of alkyl polyglucoside surfactants; and a cosmetically acceptable carrier. Methods of making and using these compositions are also described herein.
Abstract:
Described herein are personal care compositions comprising a complex comprising a plurality of short chain fatty acids; along with methods of making and using same.
Abstract:
A solid or soft solid antiperspirant/deodorant composition comprising at least one antiperspirant or deodorant active, a base component in an amount of from 2% and 15% by weight of the composition, wherein the base component is C8 to C14 fatty acid in free acid form, and a gellant, wherein the gellant comprises less than 50 % by weight of the gellant stearyl alcohol. The C8 to C14 fatty acid in free acid form can be lauric acid. The C8 to C14 fatty acid in free acid form provides antibacterial properties to the compositions.
Abstract:
A liquid cleansing composition comprising a cleansing effective amount of surfactant and an alkoxylated alkyl ether having 5 to 20 alkoxy moieties and a C 3 to C 12 alkyl. The alkoxylated alkyl ether can be PPG-14 butyl ether. The alkoxylated alkyl ether can reduce stringiness of the cleansing composition, increase fragrance bloom from the cleansing composition, increase oil solubilization, increase foam volume of the cleansing composition, or reduce dry skin.
Abstract:
A dual phase stick antiperspirant and/or deodorant product comprising a non-gelled opaque inner core as 20-70 weight % of the total composition and a clear outer shell as 30-80 weight % of the total composition wherein: (a) based on the weight of the inner core as 100%, the composition of the inner core comprises: (i) 20-70 weight % of an antiperspirant active powder, provided that the total amount of antiperspirant active in the total product does not exceed 25 weight %; (ii) 0.1-20 weight % of a filler; (iii) 2-20 weight % of a binder; (iv) 1-20 weight % of an emollient; (b) based on the weight of the outer shell as 100%, the clear outer shell is formed around the inner core and comprises: (i) 7-15 weight % of a selected siliconized polyamide of Formula IIIA as described; (ii) 8-80 weight % of a silicone component comprising at least 8-30 weight % of a volatile silicone; (iii) 10-70 weight % of a non-silicone organic material; (iv) optionally a co-gellant selected from the described group; wherein the outer gelled shell comprises the polyamide in combination with the silicone and non-silicone organic materials so that the ratio of the non-silicone organic materials to the organosilicone materials is in the range of 10:1-0.01:1.
