A bypass pipe 38 is connected to the exhaust pipe so as to bypass the NOx occluding reduction catalyst, and exhaust gas regulating valves 41 and 42 are switched so as to send the exhaust gas through either one of the NOx occluding reduction catalyst or the bypass pipe. A controller 44 respectively controls the liquid regulating valve and the exhaust gas regulating valves on the basis of a detection output of a temperature sensor 43 detecting exhaust gas temperature inside the exhaust pipe in the exhaust gas upstream of the NOx occluding reduction catalyst.

The inner one of the two or more layers is imparted with catalytic activity in the rage of 150-350 deg.C and the outer one is imparted with catalytic activity in the range of 300-600 deg.C.
