    Abstract: Acetoacetylarylamides or -heteroarylamides of deactivated aromatic compounds or heteroaromatic compounds are prepared by reacting 1 mole of an amine of the formula in which X and Y in each case represent CH or one of the two ring members X and Y represents a nitrogen atom, R represents a hydrogen or halogen atom, an alkyl, beta -hydroxyethyl, benzyl or optionally substituted phenyl group, and A represents a fused benzene ring, where the isocyclic or heterocyclic six-membered ring is substituted by 1 or 2 further substituents and the benzene ring A can be substituted by 1 to 3 substituents, with 1 to 1.2 moles of diketene at temperatures from 20 to 100 DEG C in glacial acetic acid in the presence of 1 to 20 mol per cent of a basic catalyst such as tertiary amine, fluoride, acetate, trifluoromethanesulphonate, trifluoroacetate, benzoate, o-, m-, p-alkyl-C1-C4-benzoate, o-, m-, p-alkoxy-C1-C4-benzoate or o-, m-, p-di(alkyl-C1-C4-amino)benzoate, relative to the amine, where the substituent is converted into the group.

    Abstract: New water-insoluble compounds have been found of the formula (I), wherein n is 1, 2 or 3, each R, different or the same, is halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, phenoxy, phenoxy substituted by halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, or is hydroxy, cyano, trifluoromethyl, carboxy, lower carbalkoxy or lower alkanoyl or benzoyl or benzoyl substituted by halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, and Z is hydrogen, halogen, lower alkoxy, nitro or cyano, which are well suitable as pigments for dyeing polymer masses, lacquers, caoutchouc, synthetic leather or spin-dyeing viscose or cellulose acetate, for paper and printing pastes. The dyeings obtained with them are excellently fast to light, weather and organic solvents and to the action of heat and are distinguished by a high tinctorial strength, good transparency and very clear shades.

    Abstract: Process for the preparation of 4-alkyl-3-chloroalkylsulphonylbenzenes of the formula (1) in which R and R are identical or different and denote (C1-C4)-alkyl, by chlorinating p-alkylbenzenesulphonyl chloride of the formula (2) in which R has the abovementioned meaning, with at least one mole of chlorine in the presence of a chlorine donor at temperatures of approximately 50 to approximately 100@C to give a compound of the general formula (3) in which R has the abovementioned meaning, and this compound is subsequently reduced using sodium hydrogen sulphite or sodium sulphite in an aqueous medium at temperatures of approximately 40 to approximately 90@C to give a compound of the general formula (4) in which R has the abovementioned meaning, and this compound is subjected to a condensation reaction with an alpha -halocarboxylic acid of the general formula (5) in which R is hydrogen or (C1-C3)-alkyl and X is bromine or chlorine, or one of its salts, to give a 4-alkyl-3-chlorobenzenesulphonylcarboxylic acid of the general formula (6) in which R and R have the abovementioned meaning, or one of its salts, and this compound is subsequently decarboxylated by heating. The invention furthermore relates to compounds of the formula (1) in which R is (C1-C4)-alkyl and R is (C2-C4)-alkyl or R is (C2-C4)-alkyl and R is (C1-C4)-alkyl, and to compounds of the formula (4) in which R is (C1-C4)-alkyl, and to compounds of the formula (6) in which R is hydrogen or (C1-C3)-alkyl and R is (C1-C4)-alkyl, and to the corresponding alkali metal salts.
