A transmission is simultaneously provided on multiple mesh networks. Retransmission between two nodes (41, 42) may be performed for the same communication along multiple networks in a mesh topography for the multiple networks (13, 23). This permits communication to be effected in a mesh topography where one or all systems would not be able to provide a complete network connection within any given system.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for radio resources control in a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication system are disclosed. Channel metric is calculated for each of a plurality of transmit antennas. Sub-carriers are allocated to each transmit antenna in accordance with the channel metric of each transmit antenna. Signals are transmitted using the allocated sub-carriers at each antenna. Adaptive modulation and coding and transmit power control of each sub-carrier may be further implemented in accordance with the channel metric. Power control may be implemented per antenna basis or per sub-carrier basis. In performing power control, a subset of transmit antennas may be selected and waterpouring may be applied only to the selected antennas. Waterpouring may be based on SNR instead of channel response.

The present invention claims a multiple access spread-spectrum communication system for dynamically changing a transmission rate of an information signal received from a remote processing unit (RPU) over a telecommunication line and transmitted to a subscriber through a first spread-spectrum message channel of a plurality of spread spectrum message channels, the system comprising a) a base station, connected to the RPU, which identifies an information signal rate of the respective information signal and provides a modify signal responsive to the information signal rate; comprising: a system channel controller which assigns the information signal and the modify signal to respectively different ones of the plurality of spread-spectrum message channels; first information channel mode modification means connected to the system channel controller and responsive to the modify signal for switching the respective information signal from the first spread-spectrum message channel supporting a first information channel rate to one other pre-determined spread-spectrum message channel, the one other pre-determined spread-spectrum message channel having a different information channel rate supporting the identified information signal rate; and b) a subscriber unit comprising: a first despreading means for recovering the respective information signal and modify signal from the first spread spectrum message channel; second information channel mode modification means responsive to the modify signal for reassigning the first despreading means to a second despreading means which supports the different information channel rate, the second despreading means corresponding to the second spread spectrum message channel.

An interference canceller extracts the voice signals from the received signal. A second detector is connected to the output of the interference canceller, and extracts the individual voice signals. Method and apparatus for transfer of signals from multiple antennas down to baseband over a common radio frequency (RF) chain. Antenna selection having greater flexibility and applicability to both uplink and downlink wherein priority is given to the antenna receiving a better quality signal. Measurements are taken during each time slot to determine the weighting to be given to the antenna with the better quality signal. Techniques and apparatus are provided to take measurements over a range of intervals from time slots to single symbols, for example, to select the best signal the techniques described herein may be used individual, and in some cases are combined to receive additional benefits in efficiency.
