Abstract:
The method and apparatus are used for media independent handover (MIH) measurement and reporting in wireless communications. A periodicity for measurement and reporting is set on the MIH function through an MIH protocol message or an MIH_SAP primitive and on the link layer device through an MIH_LINK_SAP primitive. A new MIH_SAP primitive, MIH protocol message or MIH_LINK_SAP primitive is added to configure the periodicity. A new information element (IE) field for measurement reporting period may be added.
Abstract:
A method for controlling behavior of lower layer links related to media independent handover (MIH) of a mobile user comprises sending a MIH link actions request primitive (e.g. MIH SWITCH, MIH SCAN) from a MIH User entity to a MIH function (MIHF) for requesting actions to be executed on a set (a group, multiple, several) of lower layer links to heterogeneous radio access technology (RAT) networks. The primitive includes parameters that indicate the requested actions and an execution time delay. Confirmation primitives are sent back the MIH User entity to convey the results of the execution attempts on the requested actions, IEEE 802.21 standard. (Comprising a result code).
Abstract:
High throughput channel operation in a mesh wireless local area network (WLAN) is disclosed. A mesh network comprises a plurality of mesh points and a network management entity (NME). The NME is configured to retrieve capability and configuration data from the mesh points. The NME configures at least one mesh point with respect to IEEE 802.11n channelization and legacy protection mode based on the capability and configuration data.
Abstract:
In a wireless communication system comprising a plurality of mesh points (MPs), a method and apparatus for transmitting management information includes a first MP transmitting a management frame to a second MP, wherein the management frame includes the medium access control (MAC) address of a destination MP. The second MP receives the management frame from the first MP and determines if it is the destination MP. The second MP updates the management frame if the second MP determines it is not the destination MP, and transmits the management frame to a third MP. The transmissions terminate when the data reaches the destination MP.
Abstract:
The invention includes a method and apparatus for mobility handling across different wireless technologies by efficiently performing alternate network discovery and enabling a mobile station to select the most desirable candidate radio access technology, depending on parameters such as location and network policy settings.
Abstract:
A method for creating sub-networks in a wireless mesh network begins by determining whether a trigger condition for creating a sub-network exists. Nodes in the mesh network are selected to create the sub-network if the trigger condition exists. The sub-network is then created with the selected nodes. A node for use in a wireless mesh network includes a state device for maintaining a state of the node, the state of the node relating to activity occurring at the node; an attachment list communicating with the state device; a trigger device communicating with the state device; and an attachment device communicating with the attachment list and the trigger device
Abstract:
A mesh network includes a plurality of mesh points (MPs), a central database (DB) and a central controller (CC). The MPs are configured to broadcast quality of service (QoS) information over a wireless medium. Each MP may request QoS information directly from at least one other one of the MPs. The MPs store QoS information in the central DB and are configured to query the central DB QoS information associated with any of the MPs. Thus, QoS information is shared throughout the mesh network, and QoS policies are defined and updated where an MP may co-exist with another MP, an MP may co-exist with systems external to the mesh network, and an MP may co-exist with mesh access points (MAPs).

Abstract:
A method for handover a mobile unit (UE) from a first base station (BS1) to a second base station (BS2) in a wireless communication systems employing smart antenna technology. Following trigger events of a handover, the mobile station generates a physical signal sounding pulse transmitted by an isotropic antenna. The sounding pulse may consist of a common sequence of symbols or a specific sequence of symbols that uniquely identifies the mobile station. A series of sounding pulses can be sent according to a power ramping procedure until a base station has focused a communications beam toward the mobile. Receiving base stations provide feedback information upon detection of the sounding pulse allowing the mobile unit (UE) and/or base station (BS1-BS4) to form communication beams toward each other. A mapping protocol may also be utilized by the communication system.
Abstract:
The present invention is a method and system for monitoring and controlling congestion in a CDMA system having multi-user detection capabilities. The method detects congestion in the uplink by calculating noise rise based on user equipment measurements or radio access network measurements. Upon detection of congestion, congestion relieving measures are implemented as needed.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for managing radio resources in one or more wireless communication networks. At least one radio resource manager (RRM) is provided within a network node, or as an independent entity. The RRM monitors performance on wireless communication links of the network(s) and interacts with nodes associated with those links to change the configuration on a particular wireless communication link if its performance (i.e., quality) falls below an established threshold. Information regarding current resource usage of the network is sent to the RRM by the nodes. Each of the nodes may send a quality report to the RRM including wireless communication link quality measurements and performance statistics. Alternatively, the RRM may perform the wireless communication link quality measurements. The RRM facilitates the broadcasting of information regarding current resource usage of one network to other networks to avoid collisions and interference.
