Disclosed herein are a transmission apparatus and method and a reception apparatus and method for a program associated stereoscopic broadcasting service. The transmission apparatus includes: a real time stream encoder generating a real time stream by encoding a reference image; a non-real time (NRT) stream encoder generating an NRT stream based on an additional image; an image synchronization information generator generating a service signaling and image synchronization information (including an event information table (EIT) and a program map table (PMT)) stream for synchronizing the reference image and the additional image with each other based on 3D content synchronization information; and a re-multiplexer generating a program associated stereoscopic broadcasting stream by multiplexing the real time stream, the non-real time stream, and the service signaling and image synchronizing information stream.

Provided are a method and apparatus for transmitting stereoscopic video information based on digital broadcasting. The method for transmitting stereoscopic video information according to the present invention comprises: constructing a signaling table including stream-type information; and transmitting the video information including the signaling table information and video data information. According to the present invention, various types of stereoscopic video services may be provided.

PURPOSE: A multi-view image content generating method and an apparatus thereof are provided to generate an image file of predetermined format and to insert the other images by using a chunk area. CONSTITUTION: A multi-view image contents generating unit generates an image file of a predetermined file format based on a selected image(S1). The device generates the chunk data based on remaining images(S2). The device inserts the generated chunk data into a chunk area of the generated PNG format file(S4). The device stores the multi-view image content in a storing unit(S5).

PURPOSE: An adaptive three-dimensional subtitle generator for three-dimensional images is provided to relief the fatigue generated from washing a movie formed with the three-dimensional images. CONSTITUTION: An adaptive three-dimensional subtitle generator for three-dimensional images comprises the following: a variation information extraction unit(220) dividing the total image sequence into segments, and extracting variation information from the segments; a location information providing unit(210) providing location information for the three-dimensional subtitle inside each segment; and a three-dimensional subtitle generating unit(230) adaptively determining the depth of the three-dimensional subtitle based on the variation information.

PURPOSE: A digital video transmitting/receiving apparatus, a method thereof, and a digital video transmitting/receiving system are provided to reduce load of network by transmitting sub-sampling of digital video data. CONSTITUTION: A down-sampling rate determining unit(12) determines down-sampling rate corresponding to bandwidth of a transmitting network based on obtained information. A video down-sampling unit(13) down-samples a digital video of high resolution according to the down-sampling rate. A video encoding unit(14) encodes the down-sampled digital video. A video multiplexing and transmitting unit(15) multiplexes the encoded digital video. The video multiplexing and transmitting unit transmits the multiplexed digital video to a video receiving unit through transmission network.

PURPOSE: A multiple view image content generating apparatus and a method thereof in a parallel process are provided to reduce time for generating multiple view image content by synthesizing a virtual view point image. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of image synthesizing and processing units is operated in parallel. A plurality of the image synthesizing and processing units generates a virtual point image corresponding to a virtual point. A plurality of the image synthesizing and processing units performs multiplex of the virtual point image. An image integrating unit(40) integrates a plurality of images which are outputted from image synthesizing and processing units.

A method for servicing a 2 dimension image and a 2 dimension-3 dimension mixed image by inserting a 3 dimension image into a specific field of the 2 dimension image is provided to reproduce a 3 dimension image in only some scenes of a specific event in a 2 dimension moving picture of a digital broadcast, thereby reducing fatigues of eyes. A 2 dimension image is converted to a 3 dimension image on a specific field. Information about a position and size of the specific field is stored. A mask is applied to a left image of the 3 dimension image to be displayed on the specific field of the 2 dimension image. The left image is attached to a reference point position of the specific field. The 2 dimension attached to the 3 dimension image is transmitted or stored through a multiplexing method. The transmitted or stored 2 dimension image is copied and expanded by two times in a cross direction.

An inter-view frame reference method in multi-view moving picture coding and an apparatus therefor are provided to reduce a residual signal and enhance a compression rate by referring to a frame of a different viewpoint of the same time or a frame of a different viewpoint of a different time when multi-view moving picture data are encoded. A multi-view GOP(Group Of Picture) arranging unit(110) includes GOPs corresponding to at least one or more viewpoints, and arranges the respective view points between the respective GOPs to have the same coding structure. A mutual viewpoint reference unit(120) refers in the picture order within a spatially close viewpoint among pictures of different viewpoints previously encoded in the respective GOPs.
