    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the reduction in load of operation on an operator when removing a vegetable juice on a cut surface before packaging a field crop such as a lettuce by providing a means for removing the vegetable juice from the cut surface of the crop in a former step for carrying out the packaging treatment of the field crop. SOLUTION: This apparatus for treating each cut surface of a field crop is obtained by providing a means for removing a vegetable juice from the cut surface of the field crop in a former step for carrying out the packaging treatment of the field crop with a packaging device. Concretely, e.g. an electric motor 30 is stopped in postures of shaking ends of shaking arms 24 directed upward and each lettuce 1 is conveyed in a state of an absorbent 28 wound around each roller 27 separated from the lettuce 1. When stopping the conveying, the electric motor 30 is continuously rotated and driven at a high speed to vertically move the absorbent 28 in a short time. Thereby, the absorbent 28 is brought into contact with the cut surface 1A of the lettuce 1 so as to tap the cut surface by own weights of the absorbent 28 and the roller 17. The vegetable juice is then absorbed. The vertical movement of the absorbent 28 is continued to the time slightly after the start of the conveyance to absorb the vegetable juice with the whole circumstance of the absorbent 28.
