Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:An aromatic diketodicarboxylic acid expressed by formula I (R and R are 1-9C alkyl or 3-6C cycloalkyl). EXAMPLE:2,5-Bis(4'-N,N-diethylamino)-(2'-hydroxybenzoyl)terephthalic acid. USE:Useful as a raw material for producing fluoran compounds used as a coloring dye for coloring recording materials such as heat-sensitive recording paper and pressure-sensitive paper. Since the new compound expressed by formula I especially has two sets of symmetric ketone groups and carboxyl groups in the molecule, the compound is effectively used as a raw material for producing the fluoran compounds having the two fluoran structures in the molecule. PREPARATION:An m-aminophenol derivative expressed by formula II is reacted with pyromellitic anhydride in a solvent such as toluene to afford the compound expressed by formula I at 30-160 deg.C, preferably 40-120 deg.C.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound without using an expensive catalyst in high yield and high purity by reacting phenols with 2-halocarboxylic acid ester in an aprotic polar organic solvent containing a hetero atom other than oxygen in the presence of an alkali metal carbonate. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by formula I (R is H or 1-6C alkyl; (n) is integer of 1-4; R is H, halogen, NO2 or alkoxy) is allowed to heat with a compound expressed by formula II (R is H or 1-6C alkyl or aryl; R is 1-6C alkyl; X is halogen) in an aprotic polar solvent (preferably amide, urea, sulfoxide, sulfolane, imidazolidinone or phosphoric triamide derivative) containing a hetero atom (preferably N, S and/or P) other than oxygen in the presence of an alkali metal carbonate. Thereby the title compound useful as an additive for heat sensitive paper or intermediate for medicine is obtained without using expensive catalyst such as KI in high yield and purity.

The organic quaternary ammonium compound is useful as a raw material for a solute in the electrolyte of electrolytic condenser.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound useful as a raw material for heat- resistant synthetic resin in high purity, simply, rapidly and in high yield by reacting 4,4'-di(2-hydroxy-2propyl)biphenyl of raw material with hydrogen peroxide in a specific solvent in the presence of an acid catalyst. CONSTITUTION:4,4'-Di(2-hydioxy-2-propyl)biphenyl as a raw material is reacted with preferably 2.0-4.0 mols based on 1mol raw material of hydrogen peroxide usually at 20 deg.C-the boiling point of a solvent. Concretely, nitromethane, 1- nitropropane, nitrobenzene, etc., are used as the solvent. The amount of the solvent used is 2-200 pts.wt., preferably 5-120 pts.wt. based on 1 pt.wt. raw material. When the aimed compound is formed, the compound is immediately made into high-purity crystal and precipitated by controlling the amount of the solvent used.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound in high yield, by oxidizing diisopropylbenzene with molecular oxygen in the presence of an alkaline aqueous solution until the reaction system reaches specific state, and reducing the product with an aqueous solution of a sulfite in a water-insoluble solvent in the absence of said aqueous solution. CONSTITUTION:Diisopropylbenzene is oxidized with molecular oxygen in the presence of an lakaline aqueous solution until the hydroxyperoxide concentration in the oily phase reaches >=110wt% in terms of diisopropylbenzene monohydroperoxide. The above aqueous solution is separated from the obtained binary liquid phase oxidation reaction mixture, and the oxidation reaction product in the oily phase is dissolved in a water-insoluble solvent. The solution is made to contact with an aqueous solution of a sulfite under stirring to reduce the above product. The aqueous phase is separated from the obtained binary liquid phase reduction reaction mixture, and the objective di(2-hydroxy-2-propyl)benzene useful as an intermediate of crosslinking agent is separated from the oily phase by a relatively simple oprocedure, in high purity and yeild.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare phloroglucin in high yield, by using a heteropolyacid as an acidolysis catalyst, subjecting trihydroperoxide of 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene in a specific temperature range in a specified acidolysis ratio. CONSTITUTION:Trihydroperoxide of 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene containing oxidized by-products, obtained by oxidation of 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene, is subjected to acidolysis by the use of a heteropolyacid such as molybdophosphoric acid, molybdosilicic acid, tungstophosphoric acid, tungstosilicic acid, etc. as an acidolysis catalyst at about 40- about 110 deg.C, preferably at about 50- about 100 deg.C, especially under reflux conditions in an acidolysis range of 92-99.5%, to give phloroglucin. The acidolysis is preferably carried out in a homogeneous reaction system.

CONSTITUTION:Formaldehyde is reacted in a liquid phase preferably in a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent such as dichloroethane, dibromomethane, bromoiodomethane, etc. in the presence of a heteropoly-acid (e.g., molybdophosphoric acid, molybdosilicic acid, tungsto-phosphoric acid, tungstosilicic acid, etc.) at 70-130 deg.C for 0.5-24hr preferably under pressure to give the desired trioxan. If necessary, one or two kinds of heteropoly-acids are used, 1-120pts.wt. formaldehyde and 0.1-20pts.wt. heteropolyacid are used based on 100pts.wt reaction medium.

The temperature of the reactional mixture after adding the secondary amines is increased to 150-250 deg.C, preferably 170-230 deg.C and the reaction mixture is further kept at the temperature for 1-10hr, preferably 3-8hr to afford the objective compounds expressed by formula IV or V.
