Abstract: 67616-131 Disclosed are fluorine-containing polymers that have good oxygen permeability, water swellability and contamination resistance and are useful for the production of oxygen permeable articles, such as contact lens. The polymers contain (meth)acrylate ester monomer units and fluorinated hydrocarbon units. In one form, the polymers are of a fluorine-containing (meth)acrylate monomer of the formula: ...(I) or (II) (wherein R1, R2, and R3 are each hydrogen or methyl, R4 is optionally O- or F-containing hydrocarbon, m and n are each 1 to 1,000) and having a fluorohydrocarbon group which is graft-bonded to the alkylene group of the (meth)acrylate monomer. In another form, the polymers are copolymers of (a) a fluorine-containing difunctional (meth)acrylate monomer of the formula: (III) 67616-131 (wherein R5 is hydrogen or methyl, R6 is hydrogen or alkyl and k is 1 to 20,000) and having a fluorohydrocarbon group which is graft-bonded to the alkylene group of the (meth)acrylate and (b) a tri- or higherfunctional fluorine-containing (meth)acrylate monomer having a fluorohydrocarbon group which is graft-bonded.

CONSTITUTION:A >=3C olefin such as propylene and a >=2C aldehyde such as acetaldehyde react with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a combined catalyst of a soluble heavy metallic salt such as an iron compound soluble in the reactional mixture with a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound expressed by formula I (R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl, aryl, etc.) such as 2,2'- bipyridyl or a compound expressed by formula II (R3 to R10 are H, lower alkyl, aryl, nitro, etc.) such as 1,10-phenanthroline to afford the objective compound.

Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:A fluorine-containing alicyclic alcohol prepared by grafting 2-30C fluorine-substituted hydrocarbon group containing at least three fluorine atoms to an alicyclic alcohol shown by formula I (R is H or OH; x and y are 0-30 integer; m is 0-10 integer; n is 1-12 integer; m+n=1-22) and a fluorine- containing alicyclic (meth)acrylic acid ester prepared by grafting 1-30C fluorine- substituted hydrocarbon group containing at least three fluorine atoms to a compound shown by formula II (R is H, OH or group shown by formula III; R is H or CH3). EXAMPLE:1-Hexafluoropropyl-1,3-cyclohexanediol. USE:A comonomer for oxygen permeable polymer, useful for contact lens. PREPARATION:A compound shown by formula I is reacted with a fluorine- containing olefin (e.g. CF2=CFCH3) in the presence of a radical generating agent (e.g. isobutyryl peroxide) at 50-200 deg.C for 0.2-5 hours to give the title compound.

PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula III with a fluorine-substituted unsaturated hydrocarbon and then reacting with a polar group-containing organic compound.

CONSTITUTION:An oxygen-permeable body formed from a fluorine containing polymer comprising a fluorine containing (meth)acrylate monomer (e.g., a compound of formula V or VI) derived by graft-bonding at lest one, per molecule of the following monomer, 1-30C fluorine hydrocarbon group to which at least three F atoms are bonded (e.g., a group of formula III or IV) to the alkylene groups in the main chain of a (meth)acrylate monomer of formula I or II (wherein R , R and R are each H or CH3, R is a 1-30C O- or F- containing hydrocarbon group nd m and n are each 1-1,000). This oxygen- permeable body is excellent in oxygen permeability, water swellability and stain resistance, it can show excellent biocompatibility, can be used for a long time and exhibits excellent performance when it is used as a medical oxygen- permeable body such as a soft contact lens.
