    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject novel blue dichroic coloring matter, consisting of a compound having decahydronaphthyl group-containing ester group introduced into an anthraquinone skeleton, having a high dichroic ratio and excellent in durability. CONSTITUTION:The objective dichroic coloring matter, obtained by introducing a decanaphthyl group-containing ester group of preferably a trans-form into the 2-position of an anthraquinone skeleton and expressed by the formula (R1 is H, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy; R2 and R3 are H, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl). The above-mentioned coloring matter is used in a concentration of 0.01-10wt.% (preferably 0.1-5wt.%) based on liquid crystals. The afore-mentioned coloring matter is obtained by converting 1-amino-4-bromoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid into an acid halide type with thionyl chloride, etc., reacting the resultant acid halide with 2-decahydronaphthols and then reacting the resultant ester compound derived therefrom with aniline substituted with amino group at the 4-position thereof.

    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:An anthraquinone pigment of formula I (wherein at least one of the benzene nuclei A-D is substituted with a halogen, and the rest are substituted with a lower alkyl, a cycloalkyl, a lower alkoxyl, a trifluoromethyl, phenoxy or OH). USE:A highly pure anthraquinone pigment having absorption characteristics suitable for a near-infrared absorption filter and being suitable for a highly sensitive near-infrared absorption filter. PREPARATION:1,4,5,8-Tetrachloroanthraquinone recrystallized from a solvent such as monochlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene or nitrobenzene is reacted with at least 4mol., per mol. of the quinone, of an aniline derivative of formula II, III, IV or V at 80-170 deg.C for 5-10hr with agitation in the presence of a catalyst comprising 0.1-1mol., per mol. of the quinone, copper sulfate, 0.01-30mol. of a (substituted)benzyl alcohol and 0.1-1mol. of aliphatic carboxylic acid salt (e.g., potassium acetate).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a blue dichroic pigment for liquid crystal displays, having a high dichroic ratio and excellent durability, represented by a specified structural formula. CONSTITUTION:This dichroic pigment for liquid display is represented by formula I (wherein R1 is hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group or an alkoxy group, R2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group). The decahydronaphthyl group in formula I is preferably a trans isomer. This pigment is desirably used in a concentration of 0.1-5wt.% based on a liquid crystal.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a resin compsn. which efficiently condenses light and emits yellow fluorescence and has good durability, by incorporating a specified naphthacene derivative in a resin. CONSTITUTION:A resin compsn. comprising at least one compd. of the formula (wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each (substd.)phenyl or naphthyl; R5 is H, an alkyl or an alkoxy). Examples of the compd. are 9,10,11,12-tetraphenylnaphth acene(rubrene), 9,11-dinaphthyl-10,12-diphenylnaphthacene, 2,6-diethyl-9,10,11,12- tetra(p-methoxyphenyl)naphthacene, etc. Resins which are optically transparent can be used. Examples thereof are polyvinyl butyral, bisallyl carbonate resins, polyesters, polystyrene, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the title compsn. which is transparent and colorless under usual light, emits bright red light upon being exposed to UV rays, has no effect on the human body through absorption of the UV rays, and has high durability and which comprises an Eu complex having a benzoyltrifluoroacetone ligand. CONSTITUTION:A resin compsn. comprising an Eu complex containing a benzoyltrifluoroacetone ligand of the formula (wherein R1 and R2 are each H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, amino, dialkylamino, alkylamino, aryl, or aralkyl; and A is an org. or inorg. ammonium, pyridinium, or phosphonium or a metallic cation). Although this resin compsn. is transparent and colorless under usual light, it emits bright red light upon being exposed to UV rays, has no effect on the human body because it can absorb the UV rays, and can suppress the deterioration of the resin, which renders the compsn. suitable for use in toys, stage and interior decorations, show windows, etc.
