Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer ink compsn. or sheet having a high sublimation speed and image stability after transfer by using a sublimable dye represented by a specific general formula as a thermal transfer recording dye. CONSTITUTION:An ink compsn. for thermal transfer recording containing a thermal transfer recording dye represented by formula I (wherein R1 is H, a 1-8C alkyl group or a cycloalkyl group, R2 is H, a halogen atom or an alkoxy group and R3 is a 3-5C branched alkyl group, an O-substituted oxycarbonyl group or an N-substituted aminocarbonyl group wherein an N-substituent may form a ring), a binder resin and an org. solvent and/or water is prepared. This ink compsn. is applied to one surface of a base sheet and dried to laminate a thermal transfer recording dye supporting layer to obtain a transfer sheet. The dye represented by the formula I is easily adapted to gradation recording and suitable for full color recording.

CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (R is aryl or aryloxy; R to R are H, 1-4C alkyl or halogen; R and R are 1-4C alkyl) such as a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula III with a compound of formula IV. The maximum absorption wavelength of the compound in toluene is 629nm.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make stability of shelf life of coloring matter in a binder on a transfer sheet good by a method wherein a thermal transfer layer containing black coloring matter for thermal transfer recording in which orange coloring matter of a specific structure and blue coloring matter of a specific structure are mixed, is provided on a base material. CONSTITUTION:Ink is prepared by dissolving or dispersing coloring matter for thermal transfer recording wherein respective specific amounts of orange coloring matter expressed by the formula I (Ar1, Ar2, Ar3 express an aryl group) and blue coloring matter expressed by the formula II (R1, R2, R3 express a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a nitro group, a hydroxy group, an alkyl group, etc., and R4, R5 express an alkyl group.) are mixed, together with binder resin in an organic solvent. A thermal transfer layer is laminated by coating and drying that ink on a base material of condenser paper, a plastic film, etc., and a transfer sheet is formed. After superimposing the transfer sheet on a material to be recorded, the transfer sheet is heated and pressurized from a rear surface of the transfer sheet with a thermal recording head to transfer the coloring matter on the transfer sheet onto the material to be recorded.

In formula, R represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl group, R the hydrogen atom, the alkyl group or the halogen atom, R , R the hydrogen atom, a substituted or non-substituted alkyl group, an alkenyl group or an aralkyl group, and X, Y a hetero ring including at least one oxygen atom or nitrogen atom. The dyestuffs are kneaded with a binder resin, an organic solvent, etc., thus acquiring an ink composition for thermal transfer recording.
