Abstract: Un procedimiento para la transmisión de señales de información en un sistema de comunicaciones (30) que comprende: determinar (1246) si el sistema de comunicaciones se beneficiaría de la transmisión de una señal de información por al menos dos enlaces de transmisión a una estación remota (36, 38), en el que los al menos dos enlaces de transmisión están formados entre la estación remota (36, 38) y un único sector de una estación base (32); si el sistema de comunicaciones se beneficiaría de la transmisión de la señal de información por los al menos dos enlaces de transmisión, entonces: codificar (12441) la señal de información para proporcionar una señal de información codificada; formar al menos una primera señal de transmisión y una segunda señal de transmisión, teniendo cada una bits seleccionados a partir de la señal de información codificada; y transmitir (1250) cada una de las al menos una primera y una segunda señal de transmisión por un respectivo enlace de los al menos dos enlaces de transmisión; pero, si el sistema de comunicaciones no se beneficiaría de la transmisión de la señal de información por los al menos dos enlaces de transmisión, entonces: codificar (12442) la señal de información para proporcionar una señal de información codificada; y transmitir (1252) la señal de información codificada por un único enlace de transmisión.

Abstract: Un procedimiento para transmitir una señal de información en un sistema de comunicaciones que tiene una estación base y una estación remota, que comprende las etapas de: (a) recibir un flujo de bits de información por la estación base; (b) determinar un nivel de potencia requerido para transmitir la señal de información desde la estación base a la estación remota para un error de tasa de bits especificado; (c) determinar si el nivel de potencia excede un primer umbral; (d) si el nivel de potencia excede el primer umbral: (d1) codificar el flujo de bits de información a una tasa de codificación inferior; (d2) transmitir una primera parte del flujo de bits de información codificada a una tasa inferior por la estación base a la estación remota a través de una primera conexión de transmisión; y (d3) transmitir una segunda parte del flujo de bits de información codificados a una tasa inferior por la estación base a la estación remota sobre una segunda conexión de transmisión; e) si el nivel de potencia no excede el primer umbral: (e1) codificar el flujo de bits de información a una tasa de codificación más alta; y (e2) transmitir el flujo de bits de información codificados a una tasa más alta por la estación base a la estación remota a través de una única conexión de transmisión.

In another system which includes the present invention, predetermined times are defined with respect to a reference point in time that is common to both an origination base station (10) and a mobile station (5). The mobile station (5) tunes to alternative frequencies to perform searches only during these predetermined times. In addition, the mobile station (5) coordinates the transmission of reports which indicate the results of searches for alternative systems such that these reports are only transmitted from the mobile station (5) when the mobile station (5) is tuned to the origination frequency.

Abstract: Techniques to adjust the setpoint of a power control loop in a wireless communication system. The setpoint may be adjusted based on frame status indicative of erased/good decoded frames, one or more (typically soft) metrics indicative of the confidence in the decoded results, power surplus/deficit indicative of the difference between the received signal quality and the setpoint and a threshold Eb/Nt needed for the desired level of performance, or a combination thereof. The metrics include one of a re-encoded power metric and a modified Yamamoto metric. The setpoint may be adjusted in different manners and/or by different amounts depending on the above-noted factors. The techniques may be employed for forward and/or reverse links in CDMA systems.
