Abstract: PURPOSE:A powder of aromatic polyimide with high molecular weight and high imidization degree is dissolved in a halogenated phenol in high concentration to produce title resin composition readily dissolving a variety of substances and being used as a base for coating, adhesive or the like. CONSTITUTION:A powder of polyimide resin that contains more than 90% of recurring units of formula I (R1 is residue of the aromatic diamine from which amino groups are removed) and has an inherent viscosity of 0.5-6 (measured with 0.5g/100ml of 4-chlorophenol solution at 50 deg.C) is dissolve in molten halogenophenol of formula II or III (R2 is H, 1-3C alkyl; X is halogen atom) that melts below about 100 deg.C and boils belowe 300 deg.C in an amount of 5-15wt% based on the phenol by heating at a temperature between the melting and boiling points under agitation.

Abstract: PURPOSE:An epoxy resin composition that contains a specific organic carboxylic dianhydride as a curing agent, thus giving cured products with excellent heat resistance, mechanical and electrical properties. CONSTITUTION:2,2,3',4'-Biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (a-BPDA) of formula I is added to an epoxy resin (EP) in an amount of 0.2-1.5, preferably 0.25-1.2 equivalent ratio given in equation II. When mixed, a powder of a-BPDA with particle sizes of about 0.1-1000 microns is added to the epoxy resin heated above the melting point, about 150-170 deg.C, and completely dissolved therein.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a new compound capable of carrying out a photocationic polymerization and a thermal polymerization using an acidic catalyst and providing a resin useful for varnishes, etc. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by the formula (R' is H or a 1-6C alkyl; M is a monovalent acidic group such as mesyl, tosyl or benzenesulfonyl), e.g. 3-ethyl-3-hydroxymethyloxetane-p-toluenesulfonate. Furthermore, the above compound is produced by dropping an aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt (e.g. an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide) at 30 wt.% concentration into a mixture comprising a 3-substituted-3-hydroxymethyloxetane (e.g. 3-ethyl-3-hydroxymethyloxetane), a sulfonyl chloride (e.g. methylsulfonyl chloride), a quaternary ammonium salt (e.g. a tetraalkylammonium salt) and a solvent (e.g. benzene) at a rate so that the temperature of the reactional mixture does not exceed 10 deg.C.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound producible from a readily available raw material, capable of carrying out cationic polymerization, excellent in heat resistance, mechanical and optical characteristics, adhesion, etc., useful for producing a photo-setting or a thermosetting resin utilized as molded products, coating materials, insulating materials, photomolding materials, etc. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or a 1-6C alkyl; and (n) is 0-10), e.g. 9,9-bis 2-methyl-4-[2-(3- oxetanyl)]butoxyphenyl}fluorene. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by converting a fluorene compound represented by formula II into an alkali metal alcoholate and reacting the produced alkali metal alcoholate with sulfonic esters of 3-hydroxymethyloxetanes represented by formula III (R3 is a 1-6C alkyl or a 6-12C aryl), preferably at 50-120 deg.C. The compound represented by formula III is preferably used in an amount of 2.0-3.0 mol based on 1 mol of the fluorene compound represented by formula II.

SOLUTION: A compound of formula I (R is a 1-6C alkyl; and X is methyl, phenyl or the like) [for example, 2-(3-oxetane)propyl mesilate)] and a compound of the formula: HO-Y-OH (Y is a 2-16C divalent aliphatic chain group) (for example, ethylene glycol) are allowed to react with each other in the presence of a base in a organic solvent (for example, dimethyl sulfoxide) in an amount of 500-2,000 ml per mole of the compound of formula I to give the objective compound of formula II (Y is -CH2CH=CHCH2-) that bears the cationically polymerizable oxetane ring.

CONSTITUTION:A process for synthesizing dichlorodiphenylsulfone by condensing chlorobenzene with 4-chlorobenzenesulfonic acid through dehydration, a process for adding water in a molar ratio of unreacted 4-chlorobenzenesulfonic acid and water of 1:0.8-1:2 and for precipitating and separating 4- chlorobenzenesulfonic acid as monohydrate and a process for additionally synthesizing dichlorodiphenylsulfone by dehydrating the recovered 4- chlorobenzenesulfonic acid monohydrate and condensing the 4- chlorobenzenesulfonic acid with chlorobenzene through dehydration are repeated to produce dichlorodiphenylsulfone.

Namely, the picture element electrodes are at regular interval as in the unit substrates even at the joint parts of the unit substrates. Further, polymer dispersed liquid crystal itself has adhesive strength, so the liquid crystal serves as an adhesive and spacers between both the substrates. Consequently, a matrix type large-screen liquid crystal display device which has inconspicuous joints is obtained.
