    Abstract: A casing hanger (920) positioned in a wellhead (910) has an electrical connector (940) which can align with a connection port (912) in the wellhead (910) to allow downhole power and signals communication to be maintained without removing any wellhead valve structure. Alignment wedges can be used to ensure the port (912) and the electrical connector's opening (924) are aligned. The opening (924) can be covered by a debris seal (960) for protection during installation. Also disclosed is an electromagnetic casing string antenna system for two-way communication downhole (see figures 10a-c). Antenna cylinders (1010, figure 10a) can be mounted coaxially on to casing joints (1020, figure 10a) and can be both transmitters and receivers. Also disclosed is an antenna module with sealed induction interface (see figures 13-15). Antenna modules (1320, figure 13) can be mounted in a drill collar (1310, figure 13). The modules are sealed by an epoxy surface (1364, figure 14) which is ground flush to an inside surface (1362, figure 14). The wellhead electrical connector arrangement, casing string antenna system and sealed antenna module can all be used together and are intended to be used in conjunction with a downhole deployment valve (DDV).

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus enable reliable and improved isolation between two portions of a bore extending through a casing string disposed in a borehole. A downhole deployment valve (DDV) may provide the isolation utilizing a valve member such as a flapper that is disposed in a housing of the DDV and is designed to close against a seat within the housing. The DDV includes an operating mechanism for opening/closing the DDV. In use, pressure in one portion of a well that is in fluid communication with a well surface may be bled off and open at well surface while maintaining pressure in another portion of the casing string beyond the DDV.

The DDV system can include fail safe features such as selectively extendable attenuation members for decreasing a falling object's impact, a normally open back-up valve member for actuation upon failure of a primary valve member, or a locking member to lock a valve membe r closed and enable disposal of a shock attenuating material on the valve member. Actuation of the DDV system can be electrically operated and can be self contained to operate automatically downhole without requiring control lines to the surface. Additionally, the actuation of the DDV can be based on a pressure supplied to an annulus.
