    Abstract: Provided is a handrail for a sliding door whereby: the sliding door itself does not fall over even if the sliding door drops out of the grooves of the door sill; the handrail itself also does not drop out; users can safely grasp the handrail to move the sliding door; and when the sliding door is open, the handrail bar does not interfere with the access of people or things through the opening. The sliding door apparatus is equipped with a sliding door (1), a hinge mechanism (5), a handrail bar (4), a guide rail (8), and a rotary roller (7). When the sliding door is closed, the handrail bar (4) is in a position facing the front of the sliding door (1) in a substantially horizontal state, and is supported by the sliding door (1) and the guide rail (8) via the hinge mechanism (5) and the rotary roller (7). When a force is exerted in the direction in which the sliding door (1) opens, the rotary roller (7) turns and moves along the guide rail (8), forcing the handrail bar (4) to rotate around the hinge mechanism (5), pushing the other end upward. When the sliding door is completely open, the handrail bar (4) is inclined at a predetermined angle or is in a vertical state, and is supported by the sliding door (1) and the guide rail (8) via the hinge mechanism (5) and the rotary roller (7).
