A vacuum outer housing of an image display device is provided with a front board (11) and a rear board, which are arranged to face each other at an interval, and a frame (13) which is arranged between the front board (11) and a peripheral part of the rear board and sealed on the front board and the rear board by a sealant. The frame is formed by jointing a plurality of frame members (13a, 13b) and has at least two jointing parts (27). The planar type image display device which can maintain high air-tightness and is suitable for mass production can be provided.

A vacuum envelope of an image display apparatus is provided with a front substrate (11) and rear substrate opposing each other with a gap defined therebetween, and a frame (13) provided between peripheral edges of the front substrate (11) and rear substrate and attached in a sealed state to the front and rear substrates by a sealing material. The frame is formed by bonding a plurality of frame members (13a, 13b), and includes at least two joints (27). The invention can provide a flat-screen image display apparatus capable of maintaining high airtightness and suitable for mass production.

The bonding method for a vent pipe (1) of a display panel includes the step of preparing the bonding member (3) on the periphery of the flange portion (2) of the vent pipe, the step of interposing a buffer member (8) made of a low-melting point glass flit having a softening temperature higher than that of the bonding member (3) between a contact face to the display panel of the flange portion of the vent pipe (1) and the display panel, and, in a state in which the flange portion of the vent pipe is pressed onto the display panel face by a pressing member so that the vent pipe (1) is fixed, the step of heating the bonding member and the buffer member to a temperature to be softened so that the flange portion (2) of the vent pipe is bonded to the display panel through the fused bonding member (3).
Abstract:
The Plasma Display Panel (PDP) having an improved sealing structure is disclosed. In a conventional PDP, the seal is formed inwardly in the cell gap between the upper and lower substrates, thus expands the area of non-effective screen, and causes the division of screen of a multi-screen system due to the resultant large element pitch. According to the present invention, the seal (27) is formed vertically at side ends of two substrates (1, 2), to reduce the breadth thereof. It expands the area of effective screen and achieves a natural image of multi-screen system due to the reduced element pitch.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat display panel that can be manufactured without bringing about scratches and stains on the display face of the panel and in which sealing of an exhaust pipe is made perfect. SOLUTION: An exhaust hole 12A for communicating between a space S1 and the outside is formed on the rear glass substrate 12 that is placed opposed to the front glass substrate 11 through the space S1, and the exhaust pipe 14, while communicating with this exhaust hole 12A, is fixed to the outer face of the rear glass substrate 12 by a press frit 15. A flange 14A is formed at the top end of the exhaust pipe 14 on the fixing side to the rear glass substrate 12 and the press frit 15 having an exhaust hole 15C is clipped between the rear glass substrate 12 by the flange 14A and welded to the flange 14A and the rear glass substrate 12, thereby the exhaust pipe 14 is fixed to the rear glass substrate 12.
