Abstract:
A method of partially forming oxide layers on a surface of a glass substrate by forming an oxide layer on the surface of the substrate, partially contacting the surface of the oxide layer formed on the substrate with a paste comprising an inorganic compound different from the oxide, organic solvents and silicon powder to partially dissolving the oxide layer with the paste, and removing the dissolved components of the layer together with the paste, by which the oxide layers are partially formed on the surface of the substrate efficiently and surely.
Abstract:
An electrostatic actuator comprising opposing electrode members displaced relatively by an electrostatic force is provided with improved durability so that electrostatic attraction between opposing members does not drop and the opposing electrode members do not stick together. Hydrophobic films of hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) are formed on a surface of segment electrode and a bottom surface of a diaphragm (common electrode) of an eletrostatic actuator wherein the diaphragm forms a wall of an ink chamber in an ink jet head. HMDS molecules are smaller than PFDA molecules, and a uniform, variation-free hydrophobic film can therefore be formed even when the gap between opposing electrodes is narrow. Durability and film stability of a HMDS hydrophobic film are also high. An electrostatic actuator with high durability and operating stability can thus be achieved.
Abstract:
Fibrous sheets are coated or impregnated with a biodegradable composition to render the sheets more resistant to penetration by liquids. Biodegradable polymer blends suitable for use in coating or impregnating a fibrous sheet can be manufactured from at least one nullhardnull biodegradable polymer and at least one nullsoftnull biodegradable polymer. nullHardnull biopolymers typically have a glass transition temperature of at least about 10null C. nullSoftnull biodegradable polymers typically have a glass transition temperature less than about 0null C. Another useful biodegradable polymer composition includes one or more biodegradable polymers and sufficient inorganic filler so as to render the treated sheet microwaveable. The biodegradable polymer compositions are especially well-suited for coating or impregnating paper sheets, e.g., 12-15 lb/3000 ft2 tissue paper to yield food wraps. Food wraps will typically be manufactured to have good nulldead-foldnull properties so as to remain in a wrapped position and not spring back to an nullunwrappednull form.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an improved method and apparatus for the application of powdered resins to threaded fasteners. In accordance with the present invention, the powdered resin handling system used to apply, collect, recycle and make-up the resin is generally enclosed; that is, with the exception of the application of the resin to the fasteners, the resin is generally maintained within conduit, housings or hoppers that are not open to the surroundings. This tends to minimize discharge of resin into the areas surrounding the fastener processing equipment and also isolates the resin from external environmental conditions that tend to degrade the resin over time. In addition, the present invention introduces fresh, new or make-up resin in a manner that assures intimate and thorough intermixing of the new and recycled resin while minimizing the cost and complexity of the equipment employed for that purpose.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a recyclable image-recording medium comprising a base layer and a surface layer. The surface layer comprises a water-swelling surface layer, containing a surfactant. Printed materials are quickly removed from the recyclable image-recording medium. The recyclable image-recording medium is excellent in durability.
Abstract:
The invention provides a process for producing a plated plastic article, which requires no chemical etching and can ensure high quality of plating without addition of a large amount of any inorganic filler in order to form a physically rough surface for an effective plating adhesion. After molding thermoplastic materials having a shear strength of 50 MPa or more, the surfaces of the molded articles are subjected to liquid honing treatment with an aluminum abrasive so that the surface roughness Rz (average roughness of ten points) is 10 nullm or more, and subsequently addition of catalyst, activation treatment, and electroless plating are carried out.
Abstract:
The invention describes a low temperature method for producing multi-layered or multi-phased coatings. With the technique according to the present invention, surface coatings with controlled variations in terms of chemical composition, phase composition, porosity, surface roughness, mechanical properties, biocompatibility, etc can be achieved. The method of coating a substrate surface comprising the steps of preparing one powder mixture, or several powder mixtures having different chemical composition, wherein at least one of said powder mixtures comprise a non-hydrated hydraulic ceramic powder binder phase, pre-treating a substrate surface, to increase the adhesion between the substrate and the ceramic coating, applying one or more different layers on top of each other of the non-hydrated powder mixture on the substrate, and finally, hydrating the powder layer/layers in a curing agent containing ions of carbonates, phosphates or fluorides.
Abstract:
A method for electroless metal plating of substrates, more specifically with electrically non-conductive surfaces, by which the substrates may be reliably metal plated at low cost under manufacturing conditions as well and by means of which it is possible to selectively coat the substrates to be treated only, and not the surfaces of the racks. The method involves the following steps: a. pickling the surfaces with a solution containing chromate ions; b. activating the pickled surfaces with a silver colloid containing stannous ions; c. treating the activated surfaces with an accelerating solution in order to remove tin compounds from the surfaces; and d. depositing, by means of an electroless nickel plating bath, a layer that substantially consists of nickel to the surfaces treated with the accelerating solution, the electroless nickel plating bath containing at least one reducing agent selected from the group comprising borane compounds.
Abstract:
An electroless brass plating method for applying an uniform and thick metallic layer on metallic, ceramic or plastic pieces, which does not depend on the piece geometry nor on its electric characteristics and by which global costs are reduced approximately 50% thanks to the use of a zinc compound as source of zinc atoms, which is less expensive than zinc cyanide.
