Abstract:
A dry non-oil metalworking lubricant that can be applied by a hot melt application. This dry lubricant is completely water soluble, provides rust protection, cleans from surfaces with plain room temperature water, and is more environmentally safe than other lubricants. A polyethylene glycol of sufficiently high molecular weight to be solid at room temperature is combined with amines, rust inhibitors, and metalworking additives to produce a thin film that provides protection for the part and the tooling in a metalworking operation. This lubricant provides further benefits to the overall process such as: easy to clean, weld through capability, excellent pain system compatibility, and environmentally superior to other lubricants.
Abstract:
There are disclosed improved water-soluble metal working fluids comprising polyaspartic acid, amides and salts thereof, a corrosion inhibitor(s) and a basic additive said additive having sufficient basicity and buffering power to maintain the pH of the composition above about 8.5 and preferably above about 9. Such compositions are useful as lubricants in processes to cut, bend, grind and shape both ferrous and non-ferrous metals and tend to maintain higher pH values due to the incorporation of a basic additive. The polyaspartic acid and salts thereof are particularly advantageous in that the fluids can be easily disposed of after use without special treatment because polyaspartic acid and salts thereof are readily biodegradable.
Abstract:
An aqueous functional fluid composition free of formaldehyde and formaldehyde producing agents, more especially an aqueous metalworking fluid composition, having improved resistance to attack by micro-organisms is provided. This fluid comprises: a) water; b) a water soluble or dispersible functioning agent (e.g. water soluble or dispersible organic lubricant) and c) an antimicrobial effective amount of the combination of d) a water soluble or dispersible nitrogen bearing organic compound (e.g. monoethanolamine) and e) a water soluble or dispersible haloalkynylalkyl carbamate (e.g. 1-iodo-3-propynylbutyl carbamate).
Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprising a boric acid additive suspended and/or dispersed in an oil, grease, or polymer base. The inventive lubricant exhibits excellent resilience and load-carrying capacity over a wide range of temperature and use conditions.
Abstract:
A water washable thermally conductive grease useful for thermal coupling of electronic chips and heat sinks in electronic modules comprises a hydrophilic liquid polymer carrier, an antioxidant, and up to 90 weight percent of a microparticulate thermally conductive filler. In a preferred embodiment, the thixotropic dielectric composition further comprises an ionic surfactant to promote wetting/dispersion of the microparticulate filler. The thermally conductive grease is non-corrosive, resistant to shear induced phase destabilization and capable of being washed from module surfaces with aqueous solutions. Substitution of the present hydrophilic based greases for art-recognized solvent washable greases eliminates use of non-aqueous solvents in electronic module processing/reprocessing operations.
Abstract:
A rubber or plastic sliding member coated with a material having excellent durability and high slipperiness, wherein the coating material is composed of a solid lubricant such as molybdenum disulfide and a resin matrix comprising a fluoroolefin vinyl ether polymer resin and/or a fluoroolefin vinyl ether/vinyl ester copolymer resin.
Abstract:
A grease composition for use as a cable filling material which contains about 75 to 95 parts by weight of a base component of a polyol or ester having a molecular weight of at least about 3000 and about 2 to 20 parts by weight of colloidal particles such as silica. Optionally, an antioxidant component can be added to impart high temperature resistance or a rubber component can be added to improve bleed resistance. Also, an article of manufacture of a cable having a sheath with one of the grease compositions of the invention located therein, and a method for filling the cable with such grease compositions.
Abstract:
A process is provided for preventing grease fires, which is particularly useful in steel mills and process mills. In the process, when a flame is ignited and approaches a special grease, the special grease emits carbon dioxide to extinguish the flame and prevents combustion of the grease.
Abstract:
The pasty damping agent is used to damp mechanical and/or acoustic oscillations. The agent contains as a minimum compound a solid finely divided substance or a mixture of solid finely divided substances, as a liquid phase, a silicone oil, a polyglycol, a mineral oil and/or a saturated or aromatic aliphatic carbon dioxide ester, an agent for increasing the activity of the limit layer or a surfactant, a magnesium and/or aluminum silicate and/or a silicon dioxide finely divided as a viscosity stabilizer and possibly a small quantity of an empty oxidiser. The damping agent is used in different hydraulic damping devices or for industrial vibration shock absorbers.
