Abstract:
A flow cell assembly for adapting an apparatus for both fluorometric and colorimetric studies. The assembly includes a holder having a folded optical path between an external light source and photosensitive response means. The light input to the optical path is at right angles to the light output therefrom so that the assembly may be employed in place of the sample cuvette of a conventional spectrofluorescence measuring instrument. The holder contains a flow tube having an offset sight passageway portion supported endwise in the optical path. The holder includes a light shield plate slotted to receive the legs of the offset portion and to substantially protect the offset sight passageway portion and the folded optical path from stray light. The flow tube may include an integral debubbler.
Abstract:
A plate dialyzer is provided with plates and membranes located therebetween. The membranes extend along the front sides of the plates and are bent around the ends of the plates. The ends of the membranes are tightly clamped between two adjacent plates. The plates have channels used for supplying or removing at least one of the dialysis liquids.
Abstract:
A NEUTRAL DENSITY SOLUTION COMPRISING AN ADMIXTURE OF NIGROSIN DYE AND A CARBON BLACK DISPERSION IN DILUTE AQUEOUS SOLUTION WHICH EXHIBITS ABSORBANCE LINEARITY IN THE VISIBLE AND ULTRAVIOLET RANGE.
Abstract:
A heart valve occluder includes a ring of hard, wear-resistant material such as isotropic, pyrolytic carbon embedded in a plastic matrix with the outer circumference of the ring protruding from the plastic about the entire circumference of the occluder. By this arrangement, the wear rate on the edge of the occluder is improved, while the noise of the occluder striking the struts of its cage is reduced.
Abstract:
AN INDWELLING CATHETER DEVICE IS PROVIDED FOR USE IN AN INTRAVENOUS CATHETER PLACEMENT UNIT OR INFUSION SET TO PERMIT THE INTRODUCTION OF WITHDRAWAL OF LIQUIDS FROM A HUMAN BODY. THE CATHETER DEVICE INCLUDES AN ELONGATED FLEXIBLE TUBE SECTION OF A LOW FRICTION MATERIAL PREFERABLY FLUORINATED ETHYLENE PROPYLENE POLYMERS OR TETRAFLUOROETHYLENE POLYMERS HAVING A TUBULAR PREFERABLY THERMOPLASTIC COLLAR MEMBER MOUNTED THEREON WITH AN INTERFERENCE FIT ADJACENT AN ENLARGE FLANGE OF THE ELONGATED FLEXIBLE TUBE SECTION. A HUB ELEMENT OF A DIFFERENT HIGHER FRICTION MATERIAL, SUCH AS POLYETHYLENE IS INSERT MOLDED OVER AND AROUND THE TUBULAR COLLAR MEMBER AND ENLARGED INTERGAL FLANGE OF THE ELONGATED FLEXIBLE TUBE SECTION TO FORM A UNITARY CATHETER DEVICE. THE HEAT OF THE MOLDING OPERATION CAUSES A CHEMICAL BONDING OR FUSING OF THE MATERIAL OF THE HUB TO THE MATERIAL OF THE COLLAR SO AS TO PROVIDE A FLUID TIGHT BETWEEN THE HUB AND CATHETER TUBE.
Abstract:
Elastic form-fitting surgical gloves and the like in which the center of the first joint of the thumb portion is transversely located forward of the palm of the hand shaped form, and is laterally located at one side of the finger portions, and in which the thumb portion bends at a traverse angle away from the palm and at a later angle toward the side of the thumb on which the finger portions are located.
Abstract:
A CALIBRATING FLUID FOR AUTOMATED INSTRUMENTS FOR BLOOD CELL COUNTING AND HEMOGLOBIN DETERMINATION COMPRISING AN ADMIXTURE OF NIGROSIN DYE AND A CARBON BLACK DISPERSION IN DILUTE AQUEOUS SOLUTION WHICH EXHIBITS ABSORBANCE LINEARITY IN THE VISIBLE AND ULTRAVIOLET RANGE HAVING SUSPENDED THEREIN SYNTHETIC LATEX PARTICLES WITH A 5 TO 15 MICRON PARTICLE SIZE RANGE.
Abstract:
An identification band, fastener and pilot tube for use in blood handling procedures to minimize blood transfusion errors. The fastener and pilot tube are integrally connected to the band and the pilot tube is adapted for release through action of the fastener when forming the band into a bracelet on an extremity. The bracelet and pilot tube carry removable labels presenting like indicia.
Abstract:
An electric surface unit which is removable from the electric range yet also capable of movement between a horizontal position of operation and an inclined non-operative position. The movement between positions being permitted by implementation of a terminal receptacle carried by the range and providing a bracket socket for intercooperation with an element on the sheath of said surface unit.
Abstract:
A prosthetic heart valve having an inner support ring of rigid non-thrombogenic material and a malleable metallic outer support ring positioned about the periphery of the inner ring and bent into the immovable clamping relationship therewith. A portion of a tubular fabric member is retained between the two clamped rings, and the remainder of the fabric member is folded into a plurality of layers about the periphery of the outer ring to form a suturing site. Typically, the outer ring carries an outwardly extending flange on one side, which is overlaid by a single thickness of the tubular fabric, to hold the multiple layer suturing site away from the orifice of the inner ring.
