Abstract: PURPOSE: To keep a maximum nip pressure depressed on a winding roll to predetermined value or less by fixing tension-controllably a belt looped over two mounted support drums and contacting a rider roller to the winding roll with nip-contact upon start of winding the support drums. CONSTITUTION: A loop belt is wound around a pair of support drums 12 and 14 positioned horizontally at some intervals and a belt-tension-roll 18 positioned under these drums 12 and 14, and each support drums 12 and 14 are rotated by driving motors 20 and 22 in the direction of arrows 28 and 30. A core 10 is supported in a notch between the support drums 12 and 14 and a web sent out from a paper-making machine is wound around the core 10. A rider roll 40 provided on the core 10 is movablly contacted to a wound-roll wound on the core 10 and is vertically moved in translation against the winding roll as the diameter of it increases.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove granules such as dust, sand, or the like, existing in the flow of wood chips by the cooperation of a fence type screen and plural sets of porous screens. SOLUTION: Wood chips stuck with sand, dust, or the like, is fed to a first fence type screen 22 of a fence type screen system 20. The suitable chips, the dust, or the like, having passed the screen stand are dropped on a first porous screen 28 installed below so as to be vibrated together with the screen 22. The suitable chips are discharged through a second and a third screens 32 and 34 in the arrow 36 direction. The suitable chips having passed through a second fence screen 24 are passed through fence plates 38 and 40, joined to the suitable chips having passed a third fence type screen 26 and discharged in the direction of a flow 42. Chips not passing all the fence type screens 22, 24 and 26 are removed as a flow 46 of an eliminable product and fine materials such as sand, dust, or the like, are dropped through the first to the third porous screens 28, 32 and 34 downward and separated.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of ultrasonically detecting a position and a depth of a material defect at a cast outer shell of a dryer. SOLUTION: Radially spaced calibration holes 46 are opened in parallel to an outer surface of a cylindrical outer shell 36 of dryer roll. As the shell 36 is rotated, an interval and angles of ultrasonic converters 24 crossing the shell 36 are regulated, and the converters 24 are mounted at a fixture 26 in which coupling media are packed. A time of advancing a signal from the converter 24 and returning the signal to the converter 24 and a depth of returning the signal are calculated by a computer 60. It has been discovered that a clear signal corresponding to the hole 46 at 1 inch at a maximum from the surface is obtained by regulating an ultrasonic wave transmitting angle. This angle is about 23 degrees perpendicularly to the surface of a cast material 20. After its calibration is finished, the converter is crossed at the surface of the cast material. Stored data can be used in the case of maintaining a dryer roll formed of the cast material.

A lubricating liquid 30 is introduced between the compliant material 18 and the bearing blanket 20 to form a hydrodynamic fluid thin film. The rigidity of the compliant material 18 is same or smaller as or than that of the fluid thin film in the center of the shoe in the processing direction, so that the fluid thin film in the nip N sinks the compliant material 18 filled with the lubricating liquid 30.

The belt 26 is changed in its direction when it reaches the upper roll 28 to fall toward the lower roll 30 and the fine particles 22 in the pockets are removed by a combination of gravity and an agitator 64 or a cleaning means.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for extending the life of a blanket in a wide- width nip press and apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: A blanket 86 is passed through the upper part of a recessed shoe 22 pressed so as to bring into contact with a supporting roll 24 in order to form a press nip 56. Both ends of the blanket 86 are attached to a circular head. A fatigue part is generated in a blanket 86 by transferring from a cardioid form produced by the nip 56 to a circle retained by the head. The head is attached onto a journal so as to move between the inside stop and the outside stop located in a state separated by about 4 inch mutually in the cross machine direction. Positioning of the head on the journal is controlled by four hydraulic pistons 28 fitted between the supporting beam and each head. Plural hydraulic system is controlled in order to extend the life of the blanket 86 by alternately changing a state in which the rear head 42 is fixed and the front head 38 is lifted and a state in which the front head 38 is fixed and the rear head 42 is lifted.
