Thereby, the connection face 32 of the flexible carriage wiring 30 together with the contact base 40 follows the connection face 62 of the of the flexible head wiring by swinging movement around the touching point in the directions of arrows X, X', Y, Y', Z, and Z'. Therefore, the connection face 32 slants to follow any slanting of the connection face 62. Consequently, the two connection faces 32, 62 come close together over the entire faces to give precise electric connection of the electric connection points between the two connection faces.

Abstract: A sensor configuration and signal processing, which are not affected by a paper rise when a print pattern for auto head shading and density correction is read, are provided. A predetermined print pattern is printed with a plurality of heads, and the predetermined pattern that is printed is scanned with a sensor (110) to detect a density unevenness for the print pattern in each color on a nozzle basis. The sensor (110) comprises a light emitting element which emits a light including all light regions, R, G, and B, and a plurality of light receiving elements each of which receives R, G, and B lights, respectively. The plurality of light receiving elements are arranged in a main scanning direction. The print pattern printed by each head is read by the light receiving element for the complementary color light of the pattern and the light receiving element for a non-complementary color light of the pattern, and a change in density level in the nozzle column direction is detected based on the difference between the two outputs.

Abstract: An ink (pigment ink) is ejected only from a nozzle 22K of a printing head 20K onto an ink absorbent 34K without ejecting inks from printing heads 20C,20M,20Y. Then a carriage 24 is moved in an arrow B' direction to bring the printing head 20C just above a cap 32K. In this state, the ink (dye ink) is ejected only from the nozzle 22C of the printing head 20C onto the ink absorbent 34K to allow the dye ink to flow in a waste ink tube 36K. Similarly, the ink (dye ink) is ejected only from the nozzle 22M of the printing head 20M onto the ink absorbent 34K. Thereby, the pigment ink flows smoothly through the waste ink tube without causing clogging of the waste ink tube with gel of the pigment ink.

Abstract: The number of signal lines of a cable between a controller and a carriage is small, and the printing timing of each head is adjustable in units each smaller than one pixel. The signal lines include a signal line for serial printing data including printing data arranged in a predetermined order for printing heads, a signal line for a clock corresponding to each bit of the data, a signal line for a signal HDSL Ä1..0Ü representing that the printing data included in the serial printing data corresponds to which printing head, and signal lines for the signals for driving the heads. Before transferring data, one slice section corresponding to the time slot for transferring the unit printing data for each head is divided into sections, and further the sections are divided into subsections the number of which is equal to the number of print heads. The transfer of printing data is started from arbitrary subsection independently for each head.
