Abstract: 1352782 Non woven fabrics FIBERTEX AS 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 24727/71 Heading D1R A non-woven fabric comprises a needlepunched web including at least two superposed bonded-together layers each comprising a fibrillatable and molecularly oriented plastics material, two of the layers having different directions of orientation one of the two layers comprising a plurality of primary ribbons extending in contiguous or spaced relationship perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the web and being oriented in their direction of extension. The primary ribbons are bonded to filaments extending parallel to the webs longitudinal direction, and the filaments may be ribbons oriented longitudinally to form the second of the two layers. A plastics sheet oriented in the webs' longitudinal direction may be bonded to the criss-crossing ribbons. The sheet and primary ribbons may be of the same plastics material and have identical shrinkage characteristics. Alternatively, the plastics sheet may be bonded to the primary ribbon-filament structure to form the second layer. The filaments may be made from the same plastics material as, and have the same shrinking characteristics as the primary ribbons. A fibre fleece, e.g. of synthetic, extruded fibres having a denier of from 2 to 4, may be bonded to the primary ribbon-filament structure. In the method of fabric manufacture shown. Fig. 5, rolls of netting 8 and of sheet material-26, which may comprise juxtaposed laterally overlapping sheets, are fed onto conveyor 25 and needle punched by needling machine 29. The punching density is preferably not more than 425 punches per square inch. Fibre fleece 34 is cross-lapped onto the conveyor. The layer may be joined together, before or after needle-punching, by heated pressure rolls. In the manufacture of the net, Fig. 1, filaments 14, forming the filaments in the fabric, are pulled longitudinally over the surface of cylindrical support 3, and ribbons 20a are helically wrapped around support 3 to form both the primary ribbons of the fabric and a tubular net which is then slit. The ribbons are bonded together by adhesive or heat. Filaments 14 may be formed by slitting longitudinally oriented sheet.

Abstract: The invention relates to a nonwoven for use in a method for producing fiberglass-reinforced or carbon fiber-reinforced synthetic materials serving as a layer for absorbing excess resin escaping during the production process . The nonwoven is comprised of thermally bonded synthetic fibers, whereby at least one side of the nonwoven has a reinforced surface with a smaller pore size. The invention also relates to different methods for producing fibergla ss- reinforced or carbon fiber-reinforced synthetic materials.
