    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluctuation signal generating method capable of generating infinite length and various sequences having exact 1/f characteristics. SOLUTION: There are (m) pieces of different states, the probability distribution function of a duration time in a state (i) is defined as F (Kλ), and a transient probability matrix to transmit from the state (i) to a state (j) is defined as P. A transient probability for transiting the component of the probability matrix P from the state (i) to the state (j) and a transient probability from a state m+1-i to a state m+1-j are made equal, components from the second row to the (m-1)th row of the transient probability are distributed while matching the centers of both side symmetric distribution functions W (x) with a diagonal term, and (m) column components of the first row and the m-th row are determined by any one of six types, with which the both side symmetric distribution functions are distributed in different orders. Every time a state transition occurs from an arbitrary initial state, a random number (r) is generated, a duration time K for staying in the state (i) is determined, a semi-Markov process is generated for a transition to the next state (j) by the instruction of another for a transition to the next state (j) by the instruction of another random number (v), and a semi-Markov sequence is generated for extracting an output amplitude applied by X=bi+c corresponding to the state number (i).

    Abstract: We paid attention to stearoyl-CoA desaturase gene, and investigated the relation between this gene and the unsaturated fatty acid content in beef fat. As a result, we found that the unsaturated fatty acid content was associated with the genotype of this gene, classified according to several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on this gene. The present invention is a method to predict the unsaturated fatty acid content in beef (or milk) fat, on the basis of the genotype of bovine stearoyl-CoA desaturase, and useful prediction method for beef quality such as taste and texture.

    Abstract: A safety arrangement comprises a unit 20 to be located beneath a bonnet 8 of a motor vehicle. The unit can become of increase length (fig 5) in response to a signal from a sensor 35 and may comprise a bellows-sleeve 21 and a gas generator 19. The unit has a catch arrangement 23 that engages part 9 of the bonnet structure so that part of the bonnet structure is engaged and retained when the length of the unit is increased. When the front part of a motor vehicle strikes a pedestrian the bonnet 8 is lifted by unit 20 allowing further deformation of the bonnet decreasing the severity of possible injury suffered by the pedestrian.
