    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply obtain a new bicyclo[3.3.1] nonane derivative having hydroxymethyl or acyloxymethyl group at the 3 position and having oxo group at the 7 position and useful as a raw material for acrylic resin monomers, etc. SOLUTION: This bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane derivative is represented by formula I (R is H or an acyl; carbon atom constituting bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane ring may have a substituent group), e.g.3-acetoxymethy1-7-oxo-bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane. The derivative is obtained by reacting an adamantane derivative of formula III (R is H, hydroxyl or an acyloxy) with a compound of the formula R -OH and molecular oxygen in the presence of an imide compound of formula II [R and R are each independently H, a halogen, an acyl, an alkyl, an aryl, a cycloalkyl, hydroxyl, an alkoxy, etc.; X is 0 or hydroxyl; (n) is 1, 2 or 3] and hydrochloric acid.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound useful as a raw material for electroconductive polymers, photographic photo-sensitive materials, fluorescent materials, transparent resin coatings for organic glasses, optical materials for optical fibers, optical elements, optical lenses, holograms, optical disks or contact lenses, and the like. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I [X is (protected) hydroxyl; X is nitro, (protected) amino, an N-substituted amino or the like; X and X are each H, an alkyl, nitro or the like], e.g. 1-acetylamino-3-adamantanol. The compound of formula I is obtained by subjecting an adamantane derivative of formula V to at least one process selected from an oxidation process for bringing the compound of formula V into contact with oxygen in the presence of an oxidation catalyst comprising an imide compound of formula II [R and R are each H, a halogen, an alkyl or the like; Y is O or hydroxyl; (n) is 1-3] (e.g. a compound of formula III or IV), a nitration process and a carboxylation process.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound in high yield restrained from immixing a halogenous compound therein by subjecting a specific adamantane derivative and compound with a polymerizable unsaturated bond to esterification reaction or amidation reaction in the presence of a catalyst formed of a compound of a group III element in the periodic table. SOLUTION: This objective compound shown by formula II (R to R are each a polymerizable unsaturated group; X is a combination group; and (n) is 0 or 1) is obtained by subjecting an adamantane derivative shown by formula I (R to R are each an amino group, etc.) and compound (e.g. aryl chloride) selected from the group consisting of an alcohol (e.g. aryl alcohol) with a polymerizable unsaturated bond, carboxylic acid (e.g. fumaric acid), amine (e.g. aryl amine), and the reactive derivative thereof to esterification reaction or amidation reaction in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. halide of samarium) formed of a compound of a group III element in the periodic table.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently subject a substrate to oxo-synthesis. SOLUTION: A substrate is subjected to oxo-synthesis with high conversion and selectivity by bringing the substrate into contact with oxygen in the existence of imide compound (N-hydroxyphthalimide or the like) and strong acid or this imide compound, strong acid and a co-catalyst (transition-metal compound or the like). In the formula, R and R denote hydrogen atom, halogen atom, alkyl group, aryl group and cycloalkyl group. R and R are mutually combined and double bond, aromatic or nonaromatic ring may be formed. X denotes O or OH and (n) denotes 1-3. The substrate contains a compound of at least one kind which is selected from among (a) a compound having methyl group or methylene group in the site adjacent to an unsaturated bond, (b) an allotropic or hetrocyclic compound having methylene group, (c) a compound having methine carbon atom, (d) a compound having methyl group or methylene group in the site adjacent to an aromatic ring and (e) a compound having methyl group or methylene group in the site adjacent to carbonyl group.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a nitro compound in high conversion and selectively, by nitrating a substrate in the absence of a catalyst under a relatively mild condition. SOLUTION: The organic substrate is nitrated without using the catalyst and ozone, using (1) a nitrogen compound of at least one of N2 O and NO, and oxygen. The nitration of the substrate is profitably carried out by using a nitrogen oxide mainly consisting of N2 O3 which is produced from the reaction of the prescribed nitrogen compound with oxygen. In another mode, (2) the organic substrate is nitrated using NO2 . The substrate contains a compound having a methane carbon, a compound having methyl or ethylene group at the adjacent position of an aromatic ring, etc.
