Abstract:
A mechanical tracking system comprises a first set of linkage arms, a second set of linkage arms, a pair of shafts connected at first end to one arm of the first set of linkage arms and at a second end to one arms of said second set of the linkage arms, wherein each arm of the second set of linkage arms is oriented out of phase with a respective arm of the first set of linkage arms, an attachment shaft positioned adjacent to the first set of linkage arms to accommodate a tool, and a sensor arrangement configured lo sense the orientation and position of the attachment shaft.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a tubing system for transporting a gas-liquid flow from a well to a production platform or processing facility. It includes a dual pathway section between the well and the production point having a first tubing portion and a second tubing portion. The second tubing portion includes a plurality of parallel channels so as to divide the multi-phase flow into a plurality of flows through individual channels. This is done to reduce flow slippage of the lower viscosity portion of the flow, which may lead to inefficiencies in flow characteristics, and often, undesirable cyclical variations in pressure and fluid volume. This is especially useful in inclined portions of the petroleum flow pipe system and along hilly terrain. The first round tubing portion is used for transporting the gas-liquid flow as well as for maintenance purposes, such as for pigging, fishing or coiled tubing operations.

Abstract:
The invention is related to methods for culturing stem cells, more particularly hematopoietic stem cells (HSC). The invention relates to methods for HSC expansion and the use of factors to increase the retention and/or expansion of KLS cells in vitro. The invention is also directed to cells produced by the methods of the invention. The cells are useful, among other things, for treatment of disorders or diseases (e.g. leukemia). The invention also relates to the development of small molecules that may increase HSC self renewal in vitro and in vivo.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus to reduce the axial thrust in rotary machines such as compressors, centrifugal pumps, turbines, etc. includes providing additional peripheral restrictive means (7) attached at the peripheral portion of the disk forming the subdividing means (4) on the side facing the rotating rotor (2). An additional ring element at the periphery of the subdividing means forms additional radial (11) and axial restrictive means (15). Such peripheral restrictive means (7, 11 and 15) function as sealing dams, which combined with the outward flow induced by the rotating impeller, form self-pressurizing hydrodynamic bearings in the axial and radial planes, improving rotordynamic stability. Additionally, a stationary ring element in the center of the cavity forms a seal with the rotor, reducing leakage to suction.
Abstract:
A substance with sedative effect comprises a therapeutically effective amount of a gamma- pyrone such as comenic acid, meconic acid, 5-methoxy-gamma-pyrone-2-carboxylic acid, and alike in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. When administered at a daily dosage of between 0.05 mg to about 10,000 mg of active ingredient per unit dose of a patient, the substance can be used to treat various disorders of a nervous system such as pain, insomnia, anxiety, neurosis, depression, as well as withdrawal symptoms experienced by drug addiction patients, especially for patients addicted to opiate-based drugs. The substance can be delivered in a number of ways of systemic administration of a pharmaceutical agent including oral, parenteral, transdermal, and transmucosal administration. For drug addicted patients, the preferred method of administration involves a subcutaneous implant providing a continuous release of an active ingredient at an effective daily rate over the entire treatment period ranging from 5 to 30 days, and preferably from 13 to 20 days.
Abstract:
A microarray apparatus is provided which contains at least one chip having source and drain electrodes positioned on an array of carbon nanotube transistors which allows for electronic detection of nucleic acid hybridizations, thereby affording both increased sensitivity and the capability of miniaturization.
Abstract:
A method of producing a hydrolyzed fermented medium containing microorganisms such as bacteria or yeast and the products of their metabolism in high concentration, the method includes providing at least one solid plant product reduced to small pieces and mixed with sugar and a biocompatible liquid such as milk for fermentation at a temperature of between 35 and 58 degrees C until the acidity of the medium reaches the range of 300 to 900 in Terner degrees. In an alternative embodiment, the medium is prepared by mixing in predetermined amounts of sprouted grains, biocompatible liquid inoculated with at least one of a variety of non-pathogenic microorganisms, vegetables, fruits, berries, high protein products, herbs, sugar, and a chemical element such as potassium. The mixture is then fermented at a selected temperature for a specified length of time to reach high acidity and high concentration of products of bacterial metabolism. A liquid phase is separated from a solid sediment phase and can be used to treat a wide variety of diseases including HIV/AIDS, viral infections, cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer's and others as well as for other applications.
Abstract:
A system for assessing lower extremity movement quality includes one or more user sensors, at least one processor, and a movement evaluator implemented using the at least one processor. The movement evaluator is configured, by virtue of appropriate programming, for receiving movement data from the one or more user sensors during a user's performance of a movement task; extracting one or more movement features from the movement data, each movement feature characterizing a respective aspect of a movement pattern of the user's performance that is associated with lower extremity injury risk; and classifying the movement pattern into a classified risk category for lower extremity injury for the user based on the one or more movement features.
Abstract:
A patch of material is configured to be applied to human tissue. The patch includes a film comprising poly(L-lactide) and poly(ℇ-caprolactone). The film is configured to self-deploy between a first position and a second position in response to a temperature. The film is applied to the human tissue when the patch of material is in the second position, in which the film has a planar configuration.
