    Abstract: The present invention relates to novel uses of prevention or treatment of diabetic complications of fucoxanthin, specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating (improving) diabetic complications which includes fucoxanthin derived from sea brown algae such as Eiseniabicyclis, Undariapinnatifida or Hijikiafusiformis as active ingredients, to health supplement, and to insulin sensitive enhancer. The fucoxanthin of the present invention has enhanced inhibition activities of aldose reductase and advanced glycation end-products, and improves insulin resistance by increasing insulin signal transduction through PTP1B suppression activities. Therefore, the fucoxanthin of the present invention can be utilized as a drug such as pharmaceutical composition and health supplement which can prevent or treat the diabetic complications so that the fucoxanthin has greatly high value if applied to food and medicine industries.
