Abstract: PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving data in a mobile communication system are provided to obtain the compatibility with respect to an existing system by dynamically applying a radio link control(RLC) layer processing method according to the characteristics of traffic services. CONSTITUTION: An RLC entity(20) and a media access control(MAC) entity(10) respectively implement automatic retransmission request(ARQ) and hybrid automatic retransmission request(HARQ). The RLC entity and the MAC entity restore lost packet through retransmission. The RLC entity implements the ARQ after the MAC entity records the HARQ. The MAC entity checks the cyclic redundancy check(CRC) of a packet received from a physical layer. The MAC entity implements the HARQ which generates and transmits acknowledge and negative acknowledge information.
