    Abstract: Solid pigment formulations containing from 70 to 97% by weight, based on the total weight of the formulation, of one or more pigments and also from 3 to 30% by weight, based on the total weight of the formulation, of at least one surfactant which is an adduct of ethylene oxide and optionally propylene oxide with ethylenediamine, the proportion of ethylene oxide being from 46 to 100% by weight, based on the total weight of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide in the adduct, and the adduct having an average molecular weight of from 5000 to 40,000, are useful for pigmenting printing ink and gloss paint compositions.

    Abstract: Siliceous pigments are prepd. by mixing (10-80) wt.% pigment raw material (inorganic or organic) with (20-90) wt.% silica hydrosol (ctg. 20-40 wt.% silica, calculated as SiO2) and (0-10) wt.% surface active agent (esp. salts of long chain fatty acids, alkali-metal salts of fatty alcohols contg. 12-18C-atoms). The mixt. is dispersed in an aq. medium to a particle size of =2 mu and then, by spray drying or pptn. with water-sol. salts, esp. CaCl2, MgCl2 or MgSO4, sepd. dried and, if necessary, milled into the solid form. The process yields pigments for making coloured, matt lacquers, dispersions etc. without mixing difficulties.
