    Abstract: 2-Neophentylanthraquinone (I), prepd. by Friedel-Crafts acylation of neopentylbenzyene (II) with phthalic anhydride (III) and cyclisation of the resultinq adduct (IV), is new. Preferred catalysts for the conversion of (II) to (IV) are aluminium halogenides, esp. ALBr3 and partic. AlCl3, or mixts. thereof. The reaction is carried out in halogenated aromatic solvent (C6H5Cl, C6H4Cl2 or C6H3Cl3), ClCH2CH2Cl, CS2, CH3NO2, or C6H5NO2. The cyclisation step (obtd. (IV) to cpd. (I) is performed in 95 to 105% H2SO4 at a temp. between 20 and 220 deg. C.

    Abstract: The invention comprises disazo dyes derived from 3- or 4-aminonaphthalimides and free from SO3H groups, of the formula wherein R is a (C1-C8) aliphatic radical which may be substituted, A is a benzene or naphthalene residue and B is a radical of a coupling component, preferably of the benzene series. They may be obtained by coupling diazo derivatives of 3- or 4-aminophthalimide whose N atom bears an aliphatic radical as substituent with coupling components of the benzene or naphthalene series containing a diazotizable amino group, and converting the monoazo dyes into disazo dyes by diazotization and coupling. The aliphatic radical R may bear hydroxy, alkoxy or amino groups as substituents. Examples are given for the production of the dyes. They may be used for dyeing or printing textile materials derived from cellulose esters, cellulose ethers, polyacrylonitrile, copolymers of acrylonitrile, linear polyamides, polyurethanes or polyesters yellow, orange, red brown or red shades.

    Abstract: Polypropylene containing 0.001% to 3.0% by weight of a metal compound capable of forming chelate complexes is dyed and/or printed using monoazo dyes of the general formula:- wherein X is hydrogen, a carboxylic acid group, an alkyl group or an aryl group; and Y is a radical derived from a coupling component free from ionic water solubilising groups, e.g. a phenol, enol, pyrazolone or an N, N\sv dialkylaniline radical free from complex forming groups. The Y radical may bear non-ionic substituents e.g. alkyl, cycloalkyl aryl, alkoxy, halogen or acylamino groups. The metals used which are present in the form of organic or inorganic compounds are Cr, Ni, Zn, Co, Cu, Cd and Al. Dyeing preferably at pH 4 to 5 using acetic acid may take place at 70 DEG - 130 DEG C from a long liquor or by impregnation with a short liquor at room temperature, drying at 70 DEG to 100 DEG C and then heating to 130 DEG C. The liquors may contain the conventional dispersing and emulsifying agents. Printing may take place by conventional film, screen or roller printing. Many examples of the dyes used are specified.
