Abstract: Single or multi-nuclear metal complexes [LnMmXp] Y, in which M is manganese in the oxidation number (II, III, IV, V and/or VI), copper in the oxidation number (I and/or II), cobalt in the oxidation number (II and/or III) or zinc in the oxidation number (II), X is a co-ordination or bridge group, Y is a counter-ion in the corresponding stoichiometric quantity for compensating a charge z, in which z may be positive, zero or negative as the charge of the metal complex, n and m are mutually independently whole numbers from 1 to 8, p is a whole number from 0 to 32 and L is certain nitrogen and/or oxygen atoms as co-ordination centres-containing organic molecules as ligands. The metal complexes (I) are suitable as bleaching and oxidation catalysts, especially in washing and cleaning agents and in textile and paper bleaching.

Abstract: Hydroxyoxaalkylmelamines of the formula I wherein R is a radical of the formula II H &lparstr& O-CHR'-CHR' &rparstr& n (II), in which the radicals R' can be identical or different and represent hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl and n has the meanings 2 or 3 and the radicals R and R represent one of the radicals R or hydrogen, are prepared by reaction of melamine with a compound of the formula III H &lparstr& O-CHR'-CHR' &rparstr& n-NH2 (III), wherein R' and n have the meanings indicated above, at a temperature from 120 to 250 DEG C in the presence of an acidic catalyst, the acidic catalyst being employed in an amount from 0.01 to 0.15 mol, relative to 1 mol of melamine.
